Pride Event to Take Place in Nampa Despite Opposition
By Sarah Clendenon • June 5, 2024A “Pride” event is scheduled in Canyon County this weekend, for the first time ever. Lakeview Park in Nampa will be the venue for the gathering, named the “Canyon County Pride Festival” by organizers.
According to the Canyon County Pride Facebook page,
“This event is a free, public, family-friendly Pride celebration that commemorates nationally recognized LGBTQ+ Pride Month. The purpose of this event is to celebrate and uplift members of the LGBTQ+ community!”

Another post described how some organizers have faced adversity during their event planning,
“We have been on a rollercoaster of emotions throughout the planning of this event, and EVERY SINGLE TIME we felt low and defeated, we immediately got a phone call or DM from a member of our community wanting to help. Stepping into the role of planning such a big event isn’t easy, and we knew we would face some hate. But we never imagined the amount of love and kindness that would appear so perfectly.

The Canyon County Pride Facebook page listed the following organizations as sponsors of the event: Idaho Democratic Party, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Silverhawk Realty, ACLU of Idaho, Flying M Coffee Nampa, polyq.org, and Healing Heart and Mind Counseling, LLC. The organizers also raised over $17,000 in funds through a GoFundMe campaign.
Despite the event containing “Canyon County” in the name, the city of Nampa and Canyon County are not sponsors of the event, nor do they necessarily endorse the message and theme.

The City of Nampa would like to provide clarification on the process of renting a park within city limits. There are a number of parks available for the public to reserve for a fee as long as certain rules and laws are followed.
As part of this process, Lakeview Park has been reserved for Canyon County Pride Festival on June 9 in Nampa. The process for park rentals is overseen by Nampa Parks and Recreation and applications are not reviewed or approved by Nampa City Council. The use of the park by this group is not an endorsement of their message or views by the City of Nampa.
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling said, “While this event does not reflect the personal beliefs and convictions of myself, the Nampa City Council, and many living in Nampa who have already reached out to us requesting it be cancelled, the advice of our legal counsel was that the City of Nampa must recognize the protected first amendment rights of those scheduling and involved in this event.”
Idaho Senator Brian Lenney (R-Nampa) retweeted media coverage of the event and said,
“City of Nampa sure is changing…”
Lenney also retweeted a U.S. Department of Education post with a “Happy Pride Month” image and commented,
“This makes white straight, conservative Christian kids feel very uncomfortable and unsafe. And, unwelcome.”

Sal, the difference between Pride and the Fourth of July are obvious.
During the Fourth of July celebrations, everyone has a common love of our country to share and we do so with fireworks, barbecues, and parades that are 100 percent family friendly and clean.
However, during Pride parades and celebrations , all the LGBTQ has to share is sexual deviance and perversion. Dressing in outfits that are BDSM, perverted, and not family friendly. Performing sex acts in public. Sharing things that are supposed to be in private spaces with children.
Pride is a disgusting perversion and I question you like all the others. If this is all the LGBTQ has to share with Pride (a mortal sin by the way), then what do you really have to be prideful of and what use do these people have in society?

Everyone a sinner in some way. So I find it very difficult to be judged and hear hateful words from my fellow Christians that claim they are children of Christ, whom by the way stands for peace love forgiveness and being able to sit with anyone anywhere on any level. Your idea of Christianity is based not on what is written in His Word (KJV) but based on the popular expressions and opinions in this present evil world. You may get away with changing the Bible into what you want it to say now, or what you think it should say so you feel comfortable or you “get your way”, but you will have to answer later for changing what it says.
And the word “hate speech” is a marxist term used to install speech codes. It’s a way of shutting down any speech one doesn’t feel comfortable with. That can work both ways. Sal, thank you for asking that question. The 4th of July isn’t called pride day. The 4th of July signifies our nations independance from the tyrannical rule of the nation of England. It is a day of thanksgiving. That was the original meaning of the day. We were thankful as a nation to be free! And no I don’t say I’m proud to be an American. Why would I be proud to be something I had nothing to do with. I say I’m thankful to be an American. Pride in all cases is wrong, according to scripture.

Why would one celebrate something the Lord says is evil. The Lord is to be feared. The Lord is going to win in the end so it’s best to not celebrate what He calls evil. He created everything we see throughout the day, and He decides what is good and what is evil. We should humble ourselves and seek the Lord and do what He says in Hs Word, and not be rebellious and go our own way. There is a devil and he wants us to be rebellious from what God says in His Holy Word.

If what the Bible says is true, and the proof is that it is, then isn’t it more loving to offend someone with the hope they will search the scriptures themselves and repent and be born again (John 3:3), instead of not saying anything, so you don’t offend them and then they go to hell. You are just so correct. I am so thankful to Christ for his sacrifice. By repenting of my sin and accepting him as my Lord and King, I am made clean and acceptable to God. What is more loving, letting someone revel in their sin knowing they are bound for the lake of fire or warning them that their sin filled life guarantees that they will end up in the lake of fire and asking them to repent so they can avoid that fate? Seems to me you’d have to hate someone for the first option. And just so you know having a different opinion or disapproving the lifestyle choices of someone is not the same thing as hating them. That “repent” part is constantly down played, and we seldom hear it from the pulpits at all, even though it is the most important part. But on the topic of homosexuality the church has completely yielded the moral high ground by accepting divorce and remarriage even among the clergy. There are very specific verses on that which are never preached. It is hypocritical to speak out against Sodomy when so much of the church is involved with ongoing, accepted, adultery. We live in very deceptive times.

My response: There’s no verse in the Bible that says that. You made that up. Secondly, sodomites (the correct name for homosexuality) was the only sin that the Lord brought down fire from heaven for (see Genesis chapter 19). He never did that for any other sin. He also almost destroyed an entire tribe in Israel, in part for the same sin (sodomy-homosexuality), when the children of Benjamin wanted to gang rape a traveling levite, a man/ and later gang raped his concubine, when the host refused to let them get to the man (the levite) (see Judges chapter 19). This caused a civil war in Israel and the near extermination of the entire tribe of Benjamin. It appears that that particular sin is a most vile and vexing sin in the eyes of the Lord, we can see this by his fierce judgement against it in two separate occasions in scripture.

My response: I never said you can’t be forgiven for being a sodomite (homosexual). But the first step is to stop resisting the truth and acknowledge it is a sin, repent, and ask the Lord to help you live a pleasing life in His sight and become born again (John 3:3). The same way any other sinner would be saved. The difference is you tend to defend your sin much more. Most people agree adultery, gluttony, drunkenness, violence, abuse, bullying, fornication, drug abuse, etc is all sin, but it seems you want everyone to be okay with your sin of being a sodomite and if anyone says its a sin you freak out, and you want to have a full month for everyone to have a “pride” parade celebrating it. In our country, recently, a man was not incarcerated after he molested a baby because he is a homosexual. In Idaho, many years ago, a man raped a baby and this act caused the baby to die. If someone criticizes Christianity (the predominantly founding religion of the USA- particularly Protestantism), it is no big deal. The crude “comedian” Larry David even had an HBO sitcom where he had some of his urine sprinkle on a painting of Jesus and they made a big joke out of it, with little to no outrage. Certainly no violence. Would there be outrage if Larry David did the same thing to a painting of Mohammad. Did you think some violence would occur? maybe even murder? Do you think if Larry David did a piece on the wickedness of ‘homosexuality” his show would be cancelled and there would be a national outrage? You know the answer.
Also, why would putting some Bible verses offend you? Are you a conservative? If so, don’t you believe in free speech? Or is it only speech you agree with, or speech that doesn’t make you feel uncomfortable?
And who is forcing their religion on anyone? This is an open reply section, can’t we post as we believe? Or should we only post in a way that the majority of the people will agree with. Sounds kind of like curtailing free speech.

This is just one of the reasons I moved to New Meadows. Idaho’s metropolitan cities are and are catering to the liberal movement and I don’t want to participate in this change. So enjoy this celebration as that is your right as an American. Be thankful that we all still live in a country that provides for so many freedoms. I heard on the news earlier this week that a bunch of Hamas / Palestinian protesters showed up at a Pride event. The pride participants heads exploded at the thought that Hamas and the Palestinians hated the LGBT community. I thought the whole thing was hilarious considering all the rainbow flags proclaiming their support for Hamas & the Palestinians.
