Boise’s New Flag Proposals Called Socialist-looking

By • April 3, 2025

Boise’s new flag proposals have been called “socialist-looking” by some Idahoans who say the designs are all ugly.

What’s Happening: The city of Boise announced earlier this year that they would be redesigning the city flag. They asked for proposed designs from the community and have now narrowed the options down to just four. Here they are:

Digging Deeper: Given Boise’s recent turn over the last ten years to becoming a more liberal city, many are not surprised at the proposed designs. Boise Mayor Lauren McLean has never denied being a socialist with her political leanings, and maybe the new flag is intended to capture her tilt toward socialism.

McLean said about the redesign effort:

“This process has been a truly inspiring celebration of community creativity and civic pride,” said Mayor Lauren McLean. Each flag design tells a story about who we are as a city. Now, we’re asking the community to choose the flag that best reflects our shared values and identity, a true Boise flag.”

  1. Should be able to vote on more than the mayors top 4 picks, she is not even from here. These are all terrible.

    1. absolutely horrendous mayor, figures these would be her choices. THEY DONT REFLECT OR REPRESENT THE ” CITY OF TREES”!!

  2. Keep the flag we have. At least it has Boise on it. The Mayor and her minions are just totally whacked out!

  3. It’s almost stunning how bad these are. Like most postmodernist garbage posing as “art,” none of them mean anything. Why a flower and a line? Where are mountains and what the city’s named after – TREES?

    Ugh + yuck. Just, awful.

  4. The city’s name needs to be in it. I would like to hear an explanation for each flag design.

But I’d really like to keep the one we have. It’s beautiful.

  5. Need to get on gear Boise!

In Idaho, the primary method to remove a mayor is through a recall election, which requires gathering signatures on a petition. Additionally, a mayor can be removed by the city council under certain circumstances, but this is less common.

  6. These flags look like they were all designed by the same person. None of them represent Boise in my opinion. Who voted on the final 4? Not me.

  7. They seem similar.
How about a group of trees with a river flowing thru it and an EAGLE, possibly adding a small town symbol .

    1. I agree. They all look so similar it’s ridiculous. Usually, there’s some stylistic differences in choices. Clearly, this is the artist someone wants. But not me.

      1. correct, same Artist – 4 version’s
don’t seem fair to other entries.
they in no way represent Boise.
I feel it’s more about the need to change everything from its past.
How about a scene of Table rock with the cross or the Depot???

  8. Why does a city need a flag? Boise taxpayers have extra money? If so, it could certainly be better spent. But since they already have one, when it is tattered be done with it. A flag used to signify something of meaning. Now it just clutters the view of our Creator’s beautiful sky.

    1. JR, I am in the panhandle, too, and we are over-full of cali commies and washtards. It’s not just down south. Idaho has been assualted – creeping over time. They were placed here to take over elected positions. I stay busy trying to run them back out.

      1. You are absolutely spot on! We have to get involved and not let them take over! We need to unite before it’s too late!

    2. We need to see if our Governor can do anything about it. Everyone needs to send him a note before it’s too late!

    3. The Mayor is allegedly from Portland, not California…which matters not a whit, as liberals from anywhere are a very poor fit for Idaho.

  9. Someone should tell Boise’s Mayor, Deer in the headlights! This is the City Of TREES! Not a Calif art project! TREES, TREES,TREES .Or you can ask your buddy Gavin his opinion.

  10. what is with the star on each of these? None of these say Boise Idaho more like welcome to our kids fort we are just a childish bunch of sheep

  11. The term “hot garbage” but that just makes me feel like that it’s something a dog does on the lawn. this is more along the lines of something cold and disgusting that has killed the lawn underneath and has been sitting for days. Leave it to the useful liberal i d i o t s to attempt to fix something that wasn’t broken in the first place.

  12. It is another attempt by progressive governing to erase our history and bring in another kind of government.

  13. Boise doesn’t need a new flag…it needs a NEW MAYOR. And a majority of the city council need to be sent packing as well. The oral flatulence from all of them that apparently fools enough voters to put them in the positions they are is simply staggering to the reasonable thinking mind. VOTE THEM OUT!!!

  14. It looks like the proposed flags are done by the same artist. They’re stupid looking and meaningless! Keep the original flag. Don’t fix what’s not broken!

  15. I agree this is another collectivist attempt to erase our history. The city incorporation date and below information should be on the flag. All words should be in English with the words “Boise” and “Idaho” featured prominently. There should be some representation of settlers, agriculture and technology.

Nickname: Boise is also known as “The City of Trees”.
Motto: The official motto of the City of Boise is “Peril, Energy, Success”.
Meaning: This motto summarizes Boise’s settlement history, highlighting the challenges (peril) faced by early settlers, the energy they put into building the city, and the eventual success they achieved.
Origin: The city’s name, Boise, is derived from the French word “les bois,” meaning “the woods,” reflecting the area’s abundant trees.

We must get this mayor out of Boise in the next election. You can help. Talk to your Republican precinct committee person and offer your time and talent to give Boise the conservative pro-American mayor it deserves.

  16. How is it possible that the community came up with all similar designs and all with a star? Ya, right! What does the star represent? Time to do some digging on that! I agree with Habennaro’s comment above about the city needing a new mayor not a new flag. These designs are not only concerning but incredibly hideous and do not depict the essence of Boise!

  17. I agree with all. Who is designing this Flag??????????????????……..Example Only
::: Why not a photo of City Hall or a Historical Site in the City with the Year the City was Incorporated?????????????????????……… Good Luck on this project. Rc

  18. these are all nice designs, but none of them say “Boise.” I agree with most of the previous posts, where is the river, the trees, the mountains. None of these submissions makes the agreed for a flag to represent this city, the capitol of the State.

  19. What is wrong with the one we have? None of these say BOISE, let alone IDAHO!!! All of these are childish. No thought was put into them. Just a bunch of squiggly lines and a little star. What does that depict?

  20. Surprising that the “City of Trees” (Boise=The Wooded River) has such poor finalist options that recognizes that history.

  21. I do not like any of the 4 options for a new city flag. Actually, to me, all 4 are the same. Please try again.

  22. The Mayor has created an impasse between her and the Idaho Legislature, and the Idaho Legislators are winning. The voters of Boise need to also make their voters known in the next mayoral race or they will have to accept the direction the ship is sailing. My concern is the ship has already sailed. The Boise flag issue is her way of marginalizing Boise’s culture and a way of staking out her new vision for Boise. Tickets for the Titanic anyone!
