Op-Ed: Demise of the Dems: Just Desserts but not Good for Us

By • March 31, 2025

The following Op-Ed was submitted by James Wilson. Op-Eds do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of those at the Idaho Dispatch.

Patriotic Americans can have little sympathy for the moral and political bankruptcy of the Democratic Party.  Founded by Andrew Jackson and John C Calhoun, the party was in its heyday from the (FD) Roosevelt era through the Obama years.  Yet they were never more than a very affluent medicine show – a house of cards – destined for self-destruction.  Their fall from grace is explosive these last four years, and they are now reduced to a mewling biting cat fight demanding power without the grip to grasp it.

One can see I have little to no sympathy for an organization that never left the plantation.  And so it may come as a surprise that I regret what is happening to the Democrats, but in fact I do.

What killed the Democrats was not their woke radicalism, although for that alone they deserve their demise.  What killed them was their relentless sense of entitlement and their rank dishonesty about who they are.  (I say killed – past tense – although they are still mewling and kicking, much like the proverbial chicken who does not know she is dead as she runs…and runs…and runs.)  This is a party that was founded and purposed to perpetuate slavery and destabilize the currency, yet they paint themselves as the best friends of minorities and working people.  They created the Ku Klux Klan – Woodrow Wilson remains the only president to screen Birth of a Nation in the White House – and won uncountable elections on their promises to lower unemployment and increase wages.  These promises were never kept, and working people and minorities decided they’d had enough in 2024; they elected Donald Trump by a large majority.

Democrats tout themselves as the party of peace – Republicans, they say, are the ones who lead us into disastrous wars – when in fact the donkey party has led us into two wars for every one launched by the GOP since Jackson and Calhoun made their move.

In recent years the party of Clinton and Obama…and Biden…have declared that they are the party of science, citing their work to address everything from climate change to COVID to bringing about racial harmony…by fanning the flames wherever they can. They are also – to hear them tell it – the party of personal freedom and adherence to constitutional guarantees of that liberty.

The jury is now in.  The Democratic  Party has presided over the greatest crime spree in history after excusing the riots of 2020.  They gave us the COVID vaccine and forced multitudes to take it; thousands died from their untested vaccines that did not work, and which may have increased the odds of infection.  They assured us that mutilating teens and children who think they are in the wrong body was scientific, when the studies show some 90% of these kids outgrow gender dysphoria if left alone.  (Those who are not left alone face a lifetime of postsurgical pain and dysfunction.)  And they are the ones who weaponized law enforcement against Americans asserting their rights at school board meetings – when they weren’t too busy censoring social media and establishing a ministry of truth.  All this chaos leaves Chuck Schumer declaring that he and his party are all that stands between ordinary Americans and the destruction of the Republic by Donald Trump.

All this notwithstanding, I actually hate what the leftists have done to themselves. Reality is that a republic – a culture – like ours requires robust debate and more or less constant political conflict if we would remain healthy.  Ours was designed to be an adversarial system; one party government is poisonous to our kind, regardless of whether it is the party of Lincoln or Obama.  Let us remember – when outing Biden’s totalitarianism – who created McCarthyism.

Much is made – and truthfully so – of the strong Republican support without which civil rights legislation in the nineteen-sixties would never have been adopted over the racism inspired resistance of southern Democrats.  Yet it was Democrats who – without ever admitting their guilt – first proposed and fought for equal rights for all in the sixties.  It took Democrats and Republicans pulling together to win World Wars I and II – and Korea – after Dems got us into them – it took a GOP president to get us out of wars in Korea and Vietnam.  Yet it was leftists – much as we can rightfully despise their motives and associations with communists – who first drove us to re-examine our reasons and our prospects for being in Vietnam.  Cleaning up after French colonialists lost what was never theirs could not justify sixty thousand American dead and a million Vietnamese, but it took the demonstrators and the Pentagon Papers to shine a light on a war our leaders never intended to win before more of our best and brightest paid for it with their lives.

By all appearances the party of JFK has become the party of AOC in this season.  They appear to be doubling down on what cost them the White House and Congress just a few months back. If so, that will be fatal to them and deeply harmful to all of us if they don’t get a clue and have a come-to-Jesus moment of serious reflection and repentance.

I would not dare to advise people as out of touch with reality as Dems are with the resurgent Kingdom of God in America’s Fourth Great Awakening, but I hope and pray they get a clue before it is too late for them.  Everything cycles back to midstream eventually – I suspect God planned it that way for us – and this season will pass into another.  I despise Democrats and all they represent; I want them to lose.  Yet I pray for them – not that they would win – but that they would get back into the game.  We conservatives need worthy opponents.
