Interview: Rep. Ehardt on Women’s Sports and Title IX Dispute

By • September 3, 2024

Idaho Dispatch recently interviewed Rep. Barbara Ehardt (R-Idaho Falls) about the dispute over Title IX and women’s sports.

Ehardt was the Idaho House sponsor of HB 500, the “Fairness in Women’s Sports Act.” The bill was passed in 2020 and has been under an injunction for years as it makes its way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Ehardt was a Division 1 college women’s basketball coach. She was appointed to the Idaho House after former Rep. Janet Trujillo left the position early to take a position with the Idaho State Tax Commission.

Ehardt has won re-election in each election since 2018.

Recently, Ehardt had former University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines come to Idaho. Gaines joined Ehardt and Governor Brad Little on the Jefferson Steps of the Idaho capitol building, where Little signed an executive order reiterating his opposition to men playing in women’s sports. You can read about that event here.

Ehardt is facing Democrat opponent Miranda Marquit this November.
