Graf Threatens to Sue Idaho Dispatch Over News Article in Now-deleted Posts
By Greg Pruett • December 15, 2024In two now-deleted X posts, Gregory Graf threatened to sue the Idaho Dispatch for an investigative article that said Graf may have violated Idaho’s campaign finance laws.
Idaho Dispatch released an article yesterday about four Facebook ads that may have allegedly violated campaign finance laws. Whether Graf violated Idaho’s campaign finance laws is ultimately up to the Idaho Secretary of State’s office, which investigates all complaints sent to their office. The Attorney General’s Office can get involved in an investigation if the SOS office needs clarification on the law.
As a news organization, we must give readers the facts and provide any information so the public can stay informed, regardless of any legal or other threats against us. Because of the legal threats against Idaho Dispatch, we felt it prudent to make our readers aware of them.
Here are screenshots of Graf’s deleted posts on X:
Graf has since posted multiple times on X saying he did not violate the law and is not required to disclose any expenditures regarding the four Facebook ads, three of which were a “voter guide” he created using funds from Take Back Idaho, a Political Action Committee.
Here is one of Graf’s X posts saying he did nothing wrong:
Idaho Dispatch always thoroughly investigates any allegations that are brought to our attention. It is not our job to determine whether an individual or organization did or did not commit any crime. We only report our findings from those investigations.
Idaho Dispatch didn’t seek comment from Graf on the original article because he has a personal policy not to respond to our inquiries. Instead, Graf commented on the articles in a series of X posts, two of which have been deleted.
As this investigation is ongoing, Idaho Dispatch will update readers with any information that comes from the SOS office.
