Last month the Lincoln Statute in Boise was vandalized with stickers and chalk paint by Black Lives Matter – Boise and other groups.
Feces were also found on the monument. Both BLM – Boise and other groups involved with the vandalism denied putting feces on the statue of Lincoln.
The Boise Police Department has now made an arrest in the case.
Police arrested Terry Wilson, the leader of Black Lives Matter – Boise for the alleged vandalism, and said that Wilson also tried to run.
Wilson was charged with resisting arrest and was also charged with having drugs (marijuana), and drug paraphernalia. Wilson is also said to have had a firearm at the time of his arrest.
Here is what the Boise Police Department released about the arrest:
Charge: Injuring Monuments, Ornaments, and Public Improvements (m), Resisting and Obstructing Officers (m), Possession of marijuana (m), Possession of drug paraphernalia (m)
On Tuesday evening Boise Police officers arrested one of the suspects believed to be involved in an injury to property incident at a bronze statue of Seated Lincoln in Julia Davis Park last month. Following an investigation, both physical and electronic evidence was used to identify suspects in this case. Boise City prosecutors issued an arrest warrant for Terry Wilson late last week. Wilson was located this afternoon. When officers approached Wilson and attempted to arrest him on the warrant, Wilson ran.
Officers chased after Wilson and were able to stop him and take him into custody, at which time Wilson was found to be in possession of a firearm, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Wilson was taken to the hospital and was medically cleared before being booked into the Ada County Jail on the listed charges.
The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected.
Wilson led Black Lives Matter – Boise in a vigil for Breonna Taylor last week which Idaho Dispatch covered.
Wilson has been an outspoken critic of the Boise Police Department and has advocated for “defunding the police” at BLM – Boise events. Wilson also said at the vigil that BLM – Boise will be more active in the coming months.
