Interview with Secretary of State Phil McGrane about Prop 1

Idaho Dispatch interviewed Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane about a letter he sent to the Idaho legislative council regarding Proposition 1.

When McGrane drafted the letter, the initiative had not yet been certified. Some disputes have arisen from the letter, particularly the estimated cost of implementing the initiative’s ranked choice voting aspect.

McGrane’s letter estimated approximately $40 million in costs, while Idahoans for Open Primaries says the estimated cost is under $500,000. Idaho Dispatch asked about that discrepancy in estimates.
