Wall of Shame: Who is Dissing the Dispatch?

By • April 17, 2024

Who is Dissing the Dispatch? Devin Burghart, Chuck Tanner, and IREHR (the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights).

IREHR is a Missouri-based organization whose vision and mission statement explains, in part,

“The combined experience of the Institute for Research & Education on Human Rights’ board members represents nearly a century of direct experience countering racism, anti-Semitism, white supremacy and white nationalist movements.

Individually and together, we have investigated the smallest corners of white nationalist activity, in the process building one of the largest research archives on white nationalism in country. We’ve also helped conceptualize the broadest band of understanding of the problems at hand.

IREHR brings both a long-term perspective and a short-term urgency to our work. We aim to continue examining racist, anti-Semitic, and far right social movements, analyzing their intersection with civil society and social policy, and to educate the public and assist in the protection and extension of human rights through organization and informed mobilization.”

Burghart is the president of IREHR. His bio says he,

“…coordinates the Seattle office. He has researched, written, and organized on virtually all facets of contemporary white nationalism since 1992.”

Tanner is,

“…an Advisory Board member and researcher for the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights. He lives in Washington State where he researches and works to counter white nationalism and the anti-Indian and other far right social movements.”

You will recall that the Idaho Dispatch mentioned Burghart during the lawsuit filed by St. Luke’s Hospital against Ammon Bundy and Diego Rodriguez. IREHR was paid $300 per hour for Burghart’s expert testimony on “extremism.” You can find those articles here, here, and here.

Chuck Tanner’s recent article regarding the CSPOA (Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association) event which took place last week in Coeur d’Alene called the Idaho Dispatch “far-right.” You can view our coverage of the event here. For clarification, Doug Traubel has never “written for” the Dispatch. The excerpt cited by Tanner was an Op-Ed submitted to the Dispatch.

Burghart tweeted about the Dispatch article, including screenshots, but refused to give credit for the source.

Although the website shows Seattle as the office location Burghart oversees, it is rumored he now lives in Spokane. He and his IREHR organization has been very involved in Idaho issues and events as of late, using all kinds of labels for individuals and groups they do not align with, such as “far-right,” “white nationalist,” “extremist,” and more. Their “expertise” appears to be in the field of name-calling.

  1. More shadowy groups trying to convince the electorate that they have some kind of special authority. I pay no attention to them. Too confusing. Most of these groups are three or four people at most.

  2. Thanks for this excellent identity-notification of the latest far-left extremists. It’s obvious that Burghart, et al., are expert practitioners of Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals,” which means they are closeted proponents of the Communist Party. Again, thanks for opening that closet door.

  3. The problem is we are a nation of dimwitted, brainwashed and ignorant voters that keep reelecting the politicians thieves that steal our income, redistribute it to foreign nations, a huge criminal like failure of a military , bailing out corrupt corporations and $pecial interests amd illegal and legal aliens. We keep reelecting instead if making them ornaments swinging from the lamp posts.

    1. To some degree, but we also have a national election system that is designed to rig elections and install favored infiltrators into positions of power.

States don’t become “blue” because all of their people got brain-dead and love Democrat fascism.

They become “blue” because the Left infiltrates and takes over their election systems.

      That’s not voter stupidity-that’s treason.

  4. This organization sounds like a more local version of the Southern Poverty Law Center. We should be vigilant of these terrorist groups considering how they malign patriotic Americans. It is safer to take the exact opposite of what they say to be the truth, to act opposite of what they encourage doing. They call patriotic Americans Nazis, but we can see by their actions who the real Nazis are.

  5. Idaho is too great for hate: Let’s keep these SOB’s, Devin Burghart, Chuck Tanner, and IREHR, out of our State entirely.

  6. It’s amazing how many people can make a living doing this kind of thing. Makes me wonder who is paying them…
