Numerous sources familiar with the Caldwell Police Department investigation tell Idaho Dispatch that two of the individuals who are allegedly being looked at are Lt. Joey Hoadley and Sgt. Ryan Bendewald.
The sources all wished to remain anonymous for fear of retribution and the sensitive nature of the investigation. We wish to remind readers that all people are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and that no charges have been filed that the public has been made aware of against Hoadley or Bendewald.
Idaho Dispatch sent the Idaho State Police a public records request with the following stipulation after the sources told us about Hoadley and Bendewald:
We are requesting any documents pertaining to the investigation of Caldwell Police Lt. Joey Hoadley and former Caldwell Police Sergeant Ryan Bendewald. Please provide documents from 8/1/2021 to 3/1/2022. Thank you!
Here is the response that Idaho Dispatch received from ISP:
An attorney for the Idaho State Police has reviewed your request or the program custodian has had an opportunity to consult with an attorney regarding your request and has chosen not to do so. It has been determined that some or all records requested are exempt from disclosure under Title 74, Chapter 1, Idaho Code for the following reasons:Advertisement
Idaho Code §74-105(1) and Idaho Code §74-124(1) Confidentiality – Exemptions from Disclosure
In a previous inquiry to the ISP, Idaho Dispatch confirmed that if no records did exist, the reply from ISP would be that “records do not exist.”
It is unclear what information the ISP has regarding the investigation. Law enforcement agencies have the broad ability to deny public records requests when investigations are “active.”Advertisement
Idaho Dispatch did this particular inquiry after receiving numerous tips and confirmations that ISP was at least part of the investigation into allegations against both Hoadley and Bendewald.
Additionally, Idaho Dispatch has been told that Bendewald was no longer with the Caldwell Police Department and allegedly left sometime late last year. Hoadley is currently listed on the city of Caldwell’s website as the head of “Investigations.”
