Press Release: Moody’s Affirms University of Idaho / University of Phoenix Affiliation Poses Risk to State of Idaho

By • March 10, 2024

The following press release was sent out by the office of Idaho State Treasurer Julie Ellsworth. Press releases do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of those at the Idaho Dispatch.

BOISE- On March 4, 2024, Moody’s Investors Service released a credit opinion and update for the State of Idaho. In this report, Moody’s declares the University of Idaho’s acquisition of the University of Phoenix poses risk to the state of Idaho.

According to Moody’s,

“The potential acquisition of the University of Phoenix, the for-profit university, by an entity related to the University of Idaho (A1 rating under review for possible downgrade) presents some operating risk to the state… Because the university is a wholly owned business-type enterprise of the State of Idaho, the risks it assumes could become operating risks of the state.”

Treasurer Julie Ellsworth said,

“Idaho taxpayers will pay increased costs if there is a downgrade to Idaho’s credit rating.”

Moody’s report was presented to Idaho’s Credit Rating Enhancement Committee on March 7th. The committee, chaired by Treasurer Ellsworth, advises the Governor and Legislature on policies and actions that enhance and preserve the state’s credit rating which helps maintain the future availability of low-cost financing.

  1. These fears should send an immediate “no deal” from the Idaho legislature. We should all appreciate this warning from Moodys.

  2. University of Phoenix has had a terrible reputation for over 20 years. It may be the biggest con in education. Don’t touch it!
Idaho needs to smarten up – or quit scamming its residents.
Follow the money. Who stands to profit from this proposed merger?

  3. See in caps below what describes our political class in the US and also Idaho.

    2 Timothy Chapter 3
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
    4 TRAITORS, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
