More Reactions from Idaho Elected Officials and Groups to the Attempted Assassination of Donald Trump

By • July 14, 2024

More reactions are coming in from Idaho elected officials and organizations after yesterday’s attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

Federal authorities have identified Thomas Matthew Crooks as the individual who shot and killed one innocent Trump rally attendee, Corey Comperatore, and injured several others in an attempt to assassinate Trump. Trump took to Truth Social last night, saying a bullet had pierced the upper part of his right ear.

In the immediate aftermath of the assassination attempt, Trump can be seen reaching up to his ear and then ducking for cover as Secret Service agents rushed to cover his body.

Crooks was killed just after opening fire, and the weapon he used was a rifle that allegedly belonged to his father. Authorities also say that explosives were found in Crooks’ vehicle.

Yesterday, Idaho Dispatch posted an article with reactions from across the political spectrum of Idaho’s elected officials and some political organizations. You can read those here.

Below are some additional reactions to the attempted assassination of Trump.

Rep. Lauren Necochea (D-Boise), who serves as the House Assistant Minority Leader and Chair of the Idaho Democratic Party, said in a statement on X:

“The Idaho Democratic Party unequivocally condemns the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Our hearts go out to the family of Corey Comperatore and those injured during this senseless act. I am grateful to law enforcement and first responders whose swift actions prevented further harm.

Violence has no place in the democratic process. It threatens the safety of our leaders and the stability of our institutions. We call on all Americans, regardless of political affiliation, to denounce all forms of violence and divisive rhetoric that undermine the fabric of our nation.”

Tony Ullrich, the Chair of the Constitution Party of Idaho, sent Idaho Dispatch the following response:

“I am truly saddened and shocked to learn that there was an attempt to assassinate former president and current GOP presumptive nominee Donald Trump.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and attendees who were impacted by this despicable assassination attempt. We mourn the loss of Corey Corperatore, who acted bravely in the defense of his loved ones by shielding them from the assassins’ bullets.

The Constitution Party of Idaho condemns any acts of violence in politics. Since Ronald Reagan, we have not seen an open assassination attempt on a president or presidential candidate. We use our 1st Amendment rights in the United States to disagree with our political opponents, not violence.

I hope that all Americans will use this time to address the serious mental health issues we have instead of blaming the tools used to perpetrate this crime.

We know that calls for gun control are coming from the very people who would have us disarmed against these killers. The Constitution Party of Idaho opposes any attempt at gun control in the wake of the Pennsylvania assassination attempt.

I am grateful that Trump was not seriously injured and that more innocent people were not harmed. Maybe America will take this as an opportunity to heal together as a nation instead of dividing based on political ideology.”

Lt. Governor Scott Bedke posted on X:

“There is no place for such violence in our democratic process. I commend the quick action of the Secret Service, and wish President Trump a swift recovery.”

Boise Mayor Lauren Mclean posted on X:

“Enough. Political violence has no place in our country. I’m holding those hurt in my prayers, mourn the senseless loss of life and pray for Donald Trump’s speedy recovery.”

Idaho State Senator Treg Bernt (R-Meridian) posted on X:

May God bless former President Trump, may God bless America, and may God bless our sacred republic… (emojis removed)”

Idaho State Senator Glenneda Zuiderveld (R-Twin Falls) posted on X:

“God has shown us His GRACE and MERCY! We must do more than PRAY! We must HUMBLE ourselves, SEEK Gods face, TURN from our wicked ways, no more silence in the face of evil!

This is a time for us to “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

‘For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Romans.’ 13:1

It isn’t Trumps time to die, it is his time to THRIVE!”

Idaho State Rep. Jaron Crane (R-Nampa) posted on X:

Moments ago – President @realDonaldTrump  stands back up after surviving an assassination attempt. I don’t know if there is a better picture that personifies America. We get knocked down, but stand up with courage to fight again. We surround one another, lift each other up, protect each other and move forward. This is America’s President.”

Idaho State Rep. Heather Scott (R-Blanchard) posted on X:

“A thousand years from now, future civilizations will not remember Biden, Obama, Bush, Clinton but they will remember TRUMP”

Idaho Leaders United posted on X:

“We echo the words of Governor Little. Foundational to our democracy is the ability to express ideas and campaign for office free from political violence. We denounce this cowardly act and offer thanks to the Secret Service for their timely action.”

The Idaho Second Amendment Alliance posted the following on Facebook:

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with Pres. Trump and the other victims of the failed assassination attempt. #GodHelpUs”

(Note: Greg Pruett serves as the President of the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance.)

Citizens Alliance of Idaho posted on X:

“Citizens Alliance of Idaho is praying for President Trump and his security detail. We are overjoyed that he escaped this assassination attempt. And we offer prayers and comfort to those who lost a loved one and suffered injuries on this dreadful day. May God protect us all.”

At the time of this writing, some of the other political organizations in the state, such as Reclaim Idaho, Take Back Idaho, and the Idaho Freedom Foundation, have not posted about the attempted assassination. We are not implying that the organizations do not care about what happened, but we aim to gather as many responses as possible from Idaho’s elected officials and organizations.

Idaho Dispatch also tried to find more responses online from Idaho’s elected Democrat officials at the statehouse but could not find more than a few retweets of President Joe Biden’s post, other than Necochea’s statement on behalf of the Idaho Democratic Party.

  1. …and this just in from the North Boise People’s Alliance for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: “The NBPADEI call for confiscation of all fire arms and for Maga conservatives to stop saying mean things about liberals. We can’t help it that facts and reality don’t matter to us”.

    1. Apparently the Constitution means nothing to you and your group but the majority of us in the Red state of Idaho know and believe in that document and you will never have the power to disarm us. Facts and reality do not care about your feelings.

  2. Why was the cop, who was notified that a shooter was on the roof, a coward and backed down when the gunman pointed his rifle at him? Why didn’t he have his gun drawn and shoot before the gunman could turn his rifle on him? Isn’t that how self-defense works? You don’t wait for the gunman to turn his gun on you, you shoot first.

Secondly, video evidence shows Secret Service agents with the shooter in their scope sights, but they didn’t shoot until AFTER the guy got off several rounds! WTF? Was the kid groomed to do this heinous deed and the SS agents ordered to wait until AFTER he shot to engage him, to shut him up? Sure looks like that’s a strong possibility. Again, if you wanted to protect people, you would have shot the moment you saw the guy with the rifle. Something is REALLY fishy here.

    1. SS policy seems to be that the SS sniper must wait for confirmation to fire on the shooter. It seems he cannot fire on his own. That policy is being reviewed now in light of the assassination attempt.

    2. I agree, this was a deep state take out. Wait till he shots President Trump. Then the police set there with him in their scoop and watch him fire off, how many bullets before taking him out and before that the police were told about his guy climbing up on the roof. No one did anything except for the coward who faced off with him and let him continue on. Unless it’s the jabs affecting their brains.

All woman security, all too short cover his head. This is not right. They need tall big men to do this job. Someone needs to be fired for this and I hope the house investigates this.

  3. Scott Bedke mustn’t have seen where the Secret Service was told that there was a gunman climbing up to the roof with a rifle and did nothing until after he shot. And then they had short & fat women trying to cover Trump. Were they DEI hires? The one woman couldn’t even reholster her gun.

    Do better, politicians.
