Former Caldwell Lieutenant Joseph Hoadley Denied Motion For Acquittal or New Trial
By Sarah Clendenon • November 29, 2022Former Caldwell Police Lieutenant Joey Hoadley, who was convicted on three federal charges in September of this year, has been denied his motion for acquittal or new trial in federal court.
United States District Judge Scott Skavdahl wrote,
“Having considered the trial evidence in the light most favorable to the prosecution, the Court concludes a rational jury could have found the essential elements of Counts 2, 3, and 4 beyond a reasonable doubt, and therefore Mr. Hoadley cannot prevail on his motion for judgment of acquittal under Rule 29. Additionally, having considered the issues surrounding the large production of documents shortly before the trial and the trial as a whole, the Court concludes the interests of justice do not require Mr. Hoadley be granted a new trial under Rule 33.”
