Where does Idaho’s congressional delegation stand on Proposition 1?

Prop 1 is a ballot initiative on Idaho’s ballot this November. If approved by voters, it will implement a “Top Four” primary system and a Ranked Choice Voting system for the general election starting in 2026.

Idaho Dispatch has contacted the offices of Rep. Russ Fulcher (R), Rep. Mike Simpson (R), Sen. Mike Crapo (R), and Sen. Jim Risch (R). Additionally, we searched for any previous statements or interviews where Idaho’s congressional delegation made statements regarding Prop 1.

Crapo’s office responded to Idaho Dispatch directly, stating,

“Sen. Crapo does not support the Prop 1 initiative.”

Risch recently joined the Neal and Julie radio show (NewsTalk 107.9) and voiced his opposition to the initiative. Risch posted his comments on an interview and added this post on X,

“I do not support ranked choice voting. This sounds like a solution looking for a problem that doesn’t exist. The system we’ve got works. I’ve learned in life when you’ve got something like that, don’t mess with it.”

Fulcher also opposes Prop 1. He posted the following on X:

“Ranked Choice Voting is a scam! Don’t fall for it. Vot NO on Prop 1!”

Simpson is the only member of Idaho’s congressional delegation not to have taken a public stance on Prop 1 that Idaho Dispatch could find. Idaho Dispatch has also contacted Simpson’s office for comment on the issue, but we have not received a reply.

Do you agree with Idaho’s congressional delegation or not? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. Simpson has to wait for a wet finger check on the wind direction before he can let you know about RCV. We can only hope that enough voters are researching this initiative and will vote NO.

  2. Mike Simpson is the worst. We need to vote him out. Why do people keep him in office?

    1. There was, in May, during the primaries. Cleveland ran against him. Simpson always wins the Mormon voting block.

    2. I agree 100 percent. He voted for a very bad border bill and I’ve asked him twice why he voted for and he will never reply to my question. He needs to go.

  3. Of course Simpson has no position, except bending over for the democrats. I guess Scott Cleveland gave Simpson and Crapo a bit of a scare back in May because both these feckless RINOs have been running TV ads about how they serve the people of Idaho…. WHAT A CROCK OF “CR*P”!!! I will be writing Scott Cleveland’s name in whenever I see Simpson, Crapo or Risch on the ballot!!

  4. If you take a survey of the 44 county clerks in Idaho, You will find very little support for Prop 1. Our current closed primary system works and it is not broken, it’s simple and voters don’t get confused. Our election system in this country was based on every vote counts, Liberals trying to introduce Prop 1, you’re vote if you mess up on the ballot can literally be discarded. If you talk to anybody from Alaska that adopted this system years ago, election results are delayed And studies of shown the Error rate can be as high as 15%. I agree with Senator Rish, if it’s not broken don’t Try to fix it.

  5. Several states enacted this LIBERAL scheme and now they are TRYING to get rid of it !! That’s all I need to know to VOTE NO.. Be careful IDAHO !!!!!

  6. Mike Simp(son) is probably too busy counting the cash he received from the anti hydo people to get back to you……

  7. Ranked Choice Voting is nothing more and nothing less than a scam system intended to defraud voters of their right to ONE vote for ONE person and to directly choose their representative.

  8. Its too bad that none of them had any information to help enlighten voters on the Prop 1. “It’s a scam!” is just a sound bite. Obviously folks in this state are unhappy about their ability to be represented in local government. Having no such “representation” some folks have decided this method may level the playing field. If elected officials were more focused on “representing” all citizens by finding balance and seeking understanding on the issues maybe the hate and discontent would settle down. Just my two cent.
