Video: Interview with Ada County Sheriff Candidate Doug Traubel
By Greg Pruett • October 9, 2024Idaho Dispatch had the opportunity recently to interview Doug Traubel, a Constitution Party of Idaho candidate for Ada County Sheriff.
Traubel is challenging Republican incumbent Matt Clifford for the position. Clifford is running in his first election as sheriff after being appointed to the position in 2021 after the sudden departure of then Sheriff Steve Bartlett.
In 2021, Traubel was among a number of candidates who applied to the Ada County Republican Central Committee to replace Bartlett. Traubel was chosen as the top pick by the central committee but the Ada County Commissioners voted 2 to 1 to pick Matt Clifford for the position.
In the 2024 sheriff’s race in Ada County, there is no Democrat candidate for sheriff. Traubel and Clifford will be the only two candidates listed on the ballot.

This is a verification that what Doug Traubel said is correct. Matt Clifford told me he had a lot of respect for the men who assaulted the public at the Ada County Couthouse. I saw one Ada County Sheriff grab a citizen’s wrist and throw him to the ground. He was just walking past him. I saw another grab a woman by the neck. I know of another man with Parkinson’s disease that they targeted. A BDP office pushed him into an AdaCounty officer. The man tried to stabilize himself and was charged with 3 felonies. He did nothing. Matt Clifford said they did a great job. Vote Doug Traubel for the public’s safety.
