Press Release: Simpson Backs RIFLE Act

By • May 23, 2021

Congressman Mike Simpson (R) sent out the following Press Release on May 12:

Washington, D.C. – Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson today joined as an original cosponsor to H.R. 3101, the Repealing Illegal Freedom and Liberty Excises (RIFLE) Act.

Authored by Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (R-IA), H.R. 3101 would repeal a section of the National Firearms Act which mandates a $200 tax on the transfer and purchase of firearms. This legislation would remedy the federal government’s intentionally placed financial barrier on the Second Amendment, which discriminates based on income.

“This tax on law-abiding gun owners is unreasonable and unnecessary, and fixing this is long overdue,” said Simpson. “This legislation is a step forward in ensuring Idahoans’ Second Amendment rights are protected. The right to bear arms is indeed an individual right, not just a right of the privileged few who can afford personal security and bodyguards.”

H.R. 3101 would also ensure that pistols with stabilizing braces would not be subject to the $200 transfer tax. This legislation does not modify any current background check provisions, simply removing the federally mandated financial burden on law-abiding gun owners.

Said Hinson, “the federal government should not be placing financial barriers on the inalienable rights of Americans. This unconstitutional tax on certain firearm purchases is a direct violation of the Second Amendment and must be repealed. As the Biden Administration and Democrats push proposals that unfairly target law-abiding gun owners, I will continue to stand up for Iowans’ right to keep and bear arms.”

  1. We can not have a Poll Tax or any tax that restricts a person from voting. We rightfully do this because you can’t tax something that is a Right.
    Why then do we still have any sort of taxes on guns or ammo.

  2. Why wasn’t this done when Republicans were in charge of everything? A day late and a dollar short. Now there will be a battle. Does not undo that which you’re trying to hide from. Too late dude.

  3. Representative Simpson is a RINO and needs to be recalled and replaced by a true conservative! He does just enough to look good and be able to campaign on. Representative Simpson recently voted for the Jan 6th commission the way the Dems want it to be. This is not standing up for equal rights or freedoms, since the Dems would not include all of the ‘peaceful protests’ of the last year! How do we go about recalling him?

  4. All gun laws are unconstitutional. This is just controlled opposition. It’s time to throw out the NFA…not just the tax stamp fee but the whole darn thing.

  5. Great idea! With China getting ready for war we need our citizens armed up with the right equipment. Especially since Biden and Harris work for the other side.

    1. Its been around since 1934. It is a transfer tax of $200.00 for any of the following:

      A shotgun having a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length;
      A weapon made from a shotgun if such weapon as modified has an overall length
      of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length;
      A rifle having a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length;
      A weapon made from a rifle if such weapon as modified has an overall length of
      less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length;
      Any other weapon, as defined in subsection (e);
      A machinegun;
      Any silencer (as defined in section 921 of title 18, United States Code); and
      A destructive device.

      Basically, if you’ve transferred any of the above items through an FFL dealer, you’ve paid this tax.

  6. Anyone who sides with the demonrats on a January 6 commission should be questioned on anything that person supports. If Simpson wants to cross the aisle to support the Marxists in D.C. let him change his party. BTW how much was he paid to support this SHAM Jan.6 Inquisition?

  7. Simpson was with the Dems on the 1,6, invention you can not truth him he votes with the Dems DO NOT TRUTH HIM on anything he said he the same as a Dems.

  8. Simpson is nothing more than another sign of the complacency that has had a grip on Idaho voters for the past 20 years. If you want change you have to stop voting every election year for the same idiots you voted for the year before. You want to get rid of people like Simpson put in term limits.

    1. Guess, you must be from somewhere else we passed Term Limits and the state, disregarded our passing of term limits. We can do, it by voting these Rhinos out and by holding the Republican Party Accountable, and telling them we no longer support those who are not true representatives of the People, they work for us, no one else…

  9. Well, Now that Mikey Simpson is up for re-election he cares, guess what Mike, we no longer care for you. You have made a whole host of stupid gun control blunders, not mention the removal of dams, that support Idaho Farms and our way of life.. You have cast you vote for Red Flag laws that remove our rights to remain innocent until proven guilty.. Guess your for got that one huh.. Time to go Silent Mike, you have sat, silently by as the left and our own Governor has force Masks on everyone, you failed to speak up for President Trump. I’m not going to miss you.. Good Bye Mike and Good night..

  10. We have tried to get rid of him but for some reason we can’t. Besides he runs unopposed most of the time. We need to check into our elections and see why we can’t get rid of some of these Rhinos.
