Press Release: Rep. Simpson’s Statement on EPA’s Implementation of Supreme Court WOTUS Ruling
By Press Release • August 31, 2023The following press release was sent out by the office of Congressman Mike Simpson. Press releases do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of those at the Idaho Dispatch.
WASHINGTON— Today, Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) releasing its updated Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule following the U.S. Supreme Court’s May ruling in the Sackett v. EPA case:
“The Supreme Court rightfully reined in the Biden administration’s EPA regulatory overreach in Sackett. However, the EPA’s revised rule ignores the very concerns laid out in the case,” said Rep. Simpson. “I’ve long fought against expansive WOTUS overreach, and I will continue to do so as America’s farmers, ranchers, and landowners face regulatory assault from the federal government.”
The administration’s proposal to expand the definition of WOTUS pushes federal regulation into waters currently managed by the states, including irrigation canals, ponds, drainage ditches, and water tanks. In accordance with the Sackett v. EPA case, the EPA was directed to revise its WOTUS rule defining what constitutes a protected waterway under the Clean Water Act. Despite instruction from the Supreme Court, the EPA’s revised rule makes minimal improvements to the EPA’s previous version, which took effect on March 20th.
Rep. Simpson was an original cosponsor of H.J. Res. 27, a joint resolution that would have nullified the January 2023 EPA and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers rule revising the definition of WOTUS. H.J. Res. 27 passed in the House and Senate but was later vetoed by President Biden.
Rep. Simpson has expressed concerns about regulatory overreach by the EPA and has taken action to stop the expansive overreach since the Obama administration. Most recently, as Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies, Rep. Simpson authored language in the Fiscal Year 2024 bill to prevent and block the flawed definition of WOTUS under the Clean Water Act.

“This has been a paid, political campaign advertisement from the committee to re-elect Mike Simpson…”
Disclaimer: It isn’t, but it sure reads like one…
I sure wish these press releases were as unbiased and un-self promoting as the Dispatch tries (successfully) to be.
The EPA needs to be dismantled and environmental concerns need to be handled at the state and local level. This agency is nothing more than a tyrannical arm of the feds working outside of the confines established in the Constitution.
Hear…Hear!
Amen.
Simpson like McConnell, Schumer, Feinstein and others need to go or be removed from office.
What a steaming pile of typical Simpson crap.
What we need: investigations into his “personal” finances. Unless Idaho rids itself of these narcissistic liars, we will indeed succumb to the disease that killed WA OR CO CA IL NY MN etc.
sob pos
The EPA is a nonconstitutional agency. Its leaders are installed. It has ZERO legislative authority (it cannot make laws). It spits out directives and rules at a staggering pace that affect every American.
So why does it take an act of Congress to overturn these illegal rules? Why is it such an arduous task stopping these rules (which they have no authority to create OR enforce…) while the EPA (as well as the ATF, BLM, etc…) create them willy-nilly with no barriers whatsoever?
Are people starting to wake up to the reality that we now live in a bureaucratic fascist state? Are we starting to understand why our elected representatives never seem to make much of a difference? Are we starting to grasp why this country has been pushed further and further away from its founding principles almost regardless of who our leaders are (with a rare few exceptions)?
This is why it is imperative to get President Trump back in office-so he can ELIMINATE the bureaucratic deep state.
Unfortunately, people are not waking up in Idaho. In fact, I see more and more Idahoans or maybe bots posting the desire to keep Biden in office.
I read a post early today that said that stupidity is not curable. You can only hope it is terminal.
Simpson needs to be replaced, Idaho deserves better than these self-serving professional politicians. How do we replace Simpson? He needs to be primaried! A capable, honest, virtuous citizen needs to step forward and the rest of us need to get behind him in the primary. Don’t be fooled by the lip service RINO’s give us to secure our vote for them. They tell us what we want to hear but act like democraps.
The EPA is a rogue body, not of the Constitution or by the people. Anything promoted by the EPA that We the People disagree with should be Nulified by the people of each State, County, City, Town, or Village that would be effected. Any legislation or law that is repugnant to the constitution shall be Null and Void. We need to understand Nullification and exercise it more often.
From the same idiot that wants the dams removed. The guy looks and acts like a drunken sot. Do Idaho a favor and go away already.
