Press Release: ICL Issues Statement in Response to Biden Letter on EMTALA
By Press Release • July 3, 2024The following press release was sent out by Idaho Chooses Life. Press releases do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of those at the Idaho Dispatch.
“It is very concerning that the Biden Administration is rushing to pressure hospitals in Idaho to perform so-called emergency abortions, when many important questions regarding their policy remain unclear and undefined.
“Idaho’s Defense of Life Act already empowers physicians to provide abortions in those very rare cases where a mother’s life is at risk. But from the beginning, the Biden White House has sought to re-federalize the abortion issue and use a tortured reading of EMTALA to impose its radical agenda on America.
Advertisement“We are distressed that the Biden White House failed to emphasize the need to provide care for the preborn child, as required by law. We are further outraged that they apparently did not clarify that hospitals and doctors can legally refuse to provide abortions when their moral scruples and commitment to practicing Hippocratic medicine are in conflict with Biden’s demand that they become the new abortion centers of America.”
