Press Release: Boise Mayor Lauren McLean Delivers State of the City Address
By Press Release • May 22, 2024The following press release was sent out by Boise Mayor Lauren McLean. Press releases do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of those at the Idaho Dispatch.
Yesterday was one of my favorite events of the year. I had the opportunity to talk to several hundred of you about my favorite topic – Boise. Each year we partner with the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce on the State of the City, where we celebrate wins and talk about the innovative things we are doing to create a city for everyone.
We are all excited about President Biden’s announcement of a CHIPS and Science Act investment in Boise’s Micron, but that is only a small piece of the incredible technology ecosystem developing in Boise. Our job rate increased by 4.1% in the last year, and it’s only getting better – and not just for those in the STEM fields. Trades and Boiseans in support roles are being lifted up as well.
But we know that quality of life isn’t just about work. I was so excited to announce the acquisition of a critical piece of property that gets us closer to the vision of a Boise Front Trail and that 160,000 Boiseans are now within a 10-minute walk to a park. Through creativity and partnering with you, we are able to deliver on best-in-class outdoor amenities while keeping property taxes low. That’s what it means to take care of people, and taking care of people is what makes Boise so special.
I’m also making the waiver of fees for childcare licensing permanent – so no one will have to pay the City of Boise a dime to get a childcare license, and next year we’ll provide up to a $500 property tax rebate to licensed in-home childcare operators who own their home to build on the property tax relief we’ve delivered in the past few years.
The most exciting and groundbreaking news is a first of its kind (for the city) partnership with the Idaho Community Foundation. With a $7.5 million city investment, we launched the Supportive Housing Investment Fund. To add to that, I’ve asked a group of local leaders to secure philanthropic investments to match the city dollar for dollar, providing stable housing and support services for Boiseans exiting homelessness.
One thing is for certain, Boise. When we are united as a community in common cause, we create the kind of lasting change that moves mountains, builds unbreakable connections and beats the odds.

When will voters in Boise learn to discern truth from lies? Astounding…
Boise will continue to deteriorate with this Mayor’s communist leaning ideas.
She, staff, council etc have bloated most all departments with DEI type, clueless highers.
Now that these departments have lost both talented staff and replaced them with “compliant” servants the inefficiencies and increased costs begin to show up.
The next thing you can expect from these clowns is to demand an increase in taxes to support their communist ways.
City voter it is mandatory that you get out to vote next time around in order to flush Boise of these nonsense individuals.
What is probably scary is that the mayor looking to step up to greater political aspirations.
She will run for Governor
Well Boise. Welcome to commiefornia, orgun, and washoutton.
Your going to pay dearly for this one.
Does the Idaho Community Foundation and Supportive Housing Investment Fund actually help local Idahoans? Not people from everywhere else?
The jobs being “lifted up”? What does that mean. All I see are our local service and healthcare businesses being stretched too thin. Lots of job openings but no workers.
To quote my teen, “FAKE!”
She’s so fake
Government has never been able to handle the homeless situation. All they know how to do is to give us platitudes and waste our tax money on projects that do nothing at all to solve the problem of those who are homeless. The only group who has been successful in helping relieve the homeless problem in Idaho is the Boise Rescue Mission. McLean will take our tax money and give it to developers as she has in the past and produce little or no low cost housing.
And the homeless $$ will go to fake 501c3’s just like in Calif. I’v worked with homeless people and expect for a few, most like living on the streets, parks etc because they do not want to report to anyone. #manufactured
She lost me at “We are all excited about President Biden’s announcement of a CHIPS and Science Act investment in Boise’s Micron,”
This was pure progressive- look at me giving away free stuff. And about then home childcare free licensing then 500$- I vaguely remember a couple horrendous child abuse cases in CA in home childcare facilities- which are MUCH harder to scrutinize and monitor- but WTH – it all sounds so peachy keen
“One thing is for certain, Boise. When we are united as a community in common cause, we create the kind of lasting change that moves mountains, builds unbreakable connections and beats the odds.” Good words for an unthinking, irrational person but when you look deeper you find out she’s leaving a lot of the details and facts out.
How about doing away with “childcare” (communism) and thinking up policies that create an atmosphere where the Fathers can earn enough to support the family and the Mother can stay home with the children and raise them in the fear and admonition of the Lord as the Bible says.
