By • January 4, 2025

Payette Police Department has named Brent Sharrai as a suspect for an improvised explosive device found on a railroad car on January 1st.

Sharrai is a resident of Payette and was captured by police after a brief pursuit. Police say they were able to track the suspect due to footprints in the snow that led back to his residence.

PPD has charged Sharrai with multiple crimes, including the following:

Possession of a Destructive Device – Felony
Possession of a Controlled Substance – Felony
Possession of Paraphernalia – Misdemeanor
Resisting and Obstructing Officers

According to an affidavit, Sharrai told police he was trying to get a bigger boom for his New Year’s celebration.

Sharrai was arrested after police received reports of a suspicious person around the train cars. The tipsters said the person was trying to light something on fire.

The Nampa bomb squad was eventually called to the site and detonated the explosive.

The incident from Payette on January 1 comes the same day that a terrorist attack in New Orleans killed 14, and another man in Las Vegas blew up a Tesla Cybertruck in front of Trump Tower, injuring several people who were in or near the hotel.

Sharrai’s parents say the incident is being blown out of proportion.
