Op-Ed: Reduce the Tax Burden, Vote in Favor of the Nampa Auditorium District
By Jeff Cornilles • November 1, 2024The following Op-Ed was submitted by Rep. Jeff Cornilles. Op-Eds do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of those at the Idaho Dispatch.
As a fourth-generation Nampa resident and a representative in the Idaho House, I’ve seen the positive changes in our community firsthand. The upcoming vote on the Nampa Auditorium District on November 5 presents a significant opportunity for further advancement. This initiative goes beyond financial support; it represents a strategic vision for enhancing our city’s event spaces.
By implementing a 5% fee on hotel stays, we can channel contributions from visitors to improve the Ford Idaho Center, Nampa Civic Center, and other cherished venues. Our city allocates over $1 million annually to maintain these facilities, which places a considerable financial burden on residents. This proposal would alleviate that pressure, allowing us to redirect funds to other vital community needs.
Moreover, establishing an auditorium district would empower a board composed of Nampa residents to oversee the future of these venues, ensuring that our investments align with our community’s unique needs and values. Let’s work together to foster a rich cultural future for Nampa. Supporting the Nampa Auditorium District is a vote for our community’s growth, strength, and collective vision. I encourage you to make your voice count on November 5 and vote in Favor of this critical initiative.
