Op-Ed: Nampa Auditorium District Initiative

By • November 1, 2024

The following Op-Ed was submitted by Don Wixom. Op-Eds do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of those at the Idaho Dispatch.

As a lifelong resident and committed advocate for Nampa, I am proud to support the
establishment of the Nampa Auditorium District. With years of experience as a business
owner, Broker/Owner of a RE/MAX franchise in the Treasure Valley, and local
REALTOR, I have seen our event venues’ significant impact in attracting visitors,
supporting businesses, and fostering growth in our community.

The proposed hotel user fee offers a fair and effective way to fund the maintenance and
improvement of the Ford Idaho Center, Nampa Civic Center, and other essential
facilities. By asking visitors to contribute, we can relieve local taxpayers of this financial
responsibility while ensuring our venues remain top-quality event destinations.

Additionally, establishing a Nampa Auditorium District Board—comprised entirely of
residents—guarantees that decisions about investments, upgrades, and enhancements
will reflect the needs and priorities of our community. This initiative allows us to preserve
and elevate our shared spaces without adding pressure to our city’s budget.

I urge my fellow Nampa residents to vote “yes” on November 5 for this initiative.
Together, we can support our community’s growth and ensure a brighter future for
Nampa!
