Kari Lake Visits Idaho, Responds to Idaho Chooses Life Criticism

By • April 21, 2024

Kari Lake visited Idaho Falls yesterday as the keynote speaker for the Bonneville County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner.

You will recall Lake was the 2022 Republican nominee in the Arizona gubernatorial race. She lost the election in November of that year, but contested the results, claiming sabotage of the vote count. She is currently running for a U.S. Senate seat representing Arizona.

Arizona’s laws on abortion have been a hotly debated topic lately, both by the public and by the Arizona Legislature. In order to understand the discussion surrounding Lake’s position on the Arizona abortion debate, which has been one focus during her Idaho trip, you must begin with this April 8, 2024 video from former President Donald Trump.

Trump emphasizes over and over “the will of the people” and the fact that with SCOTUS overturning Roe v. Wade, each state will be handling the abortion issue differently. He says the people must accept that each state will have differing views and opinions, and the laws will reflect that.

Lake then posted this video on her YouTube channel on April 11, 2024. She describes her agreement with Trump on this issue, saying that although she chose life, she is not every woman and does not pretend to understand the circumstances and emotions of every woman.

Ahead of Lake’s visit, Idaho Chooses Life executive director David Ripley issued a press release addressing those comments by Lake.

“Like conservatives across the state, we were excited to learn that U.S. senate candidate Kari Lake was coming to Idaho Falls. She has become a leading voice in America for restoring integrity to our election system and for the values that made America the greatest nation in history.

Imagine our profound disappointment, then, when we saw this heroine join the media mob in calling for an immediate “fix” to Arizona’s historic law protecting preborn children…

Our heroine joined the mob in calling the law archaic, and in need of “improvement” – by which Mrs. Lake means that more abortions should be made legal in Arizona. Our heroine revealed feet of clay.”

According to the website of the Arizona Attorney General,

Under current Arizona law:

-The term “abortion” refers to “the use of any means to terminate the clinically diagnosable pregnancy of a woman with knowledge that the termination by those means will cause, with reasonable likelihood, the death of the unborn child.” A.R.S. § 36-2151.

-The legal definition of “abortion” does not include:
–birth control devices (ex: IUDs);
–oral contraceptives that inhibit or prevent ovulation (ex: birth control pills);
–oral contraceptives that inhibit or prevent conception or the implantation of a fertilized ovum in the uterus (ex: “morning after pills” or “Plan B”);
–or any means used to terminate an ectopic pregnancy or remove a deceased fetus. For example, if you have a miscarriage and the doctor performs a surgical procedure to remove the deceased fetus, that is not an abortion.
–Because these procedures and medications do not fall within the definition of “abortion” under Arizona law, regulations and restrictions on “abortion” do not apply to any of them.

-Doctors can perform abortions up to 15 weeks gestational age. “Gestational age” means the age of the fetus, as calculated from the first day of the patient’s last menstrual period.

-At any point in the pregnancy, including after 15 weeks, abortion is legal if a doctor determines that there is a medical emergency. “Medical emergency” is defined by State law in this context to mean a situation where immediate abortion care is necessary to avoid the patient’s death, or when delaying abortion care will create a serious risk of substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function.

-Arizona law also makes it illegal for doctors to perform abortions for certain impermissible reasons – for example, if the abortion is sought because of the sex or race or the fetus.

-Abortion can be performed surgically or with medication.

-The medication abortion drug mifepristone remains legal in Arizona.

-Arizona law does not have exceptions for rape or incest. That means if you become pregnant by a rapist or blood relative and would like to get an abortion, you must do so before the gestational age of the fetus exceeds 15 weeks. An abortion after 15 weeks is legal only if a doctor determines that there is a medical emergency, as explained above.

The Arizona AG then mentions the specifics of current litigation regarding Arizona abortion law:

Several of Arizona’s abortion laws, as well as some federal laws, are being litigated in the courts right now, so the law might change in the coming months and years.

You can read more about some of these cases, but here are some of the issues that are not yet permanently settled:

-In Arizona, litigants in one case have asked the Arizona Supreme Court to reinstate a near-total ban on abortions. Depending on how the Court resolves that case, abortion access could be significantly more limited than under the current 15-week law.

-In two different federal cases, the legality of mifepristone and how it can be used are being litigated. Arizona law already has restrictions on abortion medication. But those federal cases might ultimately make mifepristone unavailable or limit how it can be used, which could affect access in Arizona.

-Arizona law makes it a crime for a doctor to knowingly perform an abortion that is sought solely because of a genetic abnormality of the fetus. The meaning and application of that law is not clear and it is still being litigated in court.

Just before her presentation at last night’s Bonneville GOP event, Lake spoke to David with the Idaho Dispatch. She responds to the press release from Idaho Chooses Life.

On this topic and also for your consideration is a recent article by Brian Almon of The Gem State Chronicle. Almon ties together different recent statements and actions by Idaho Chooses Life regarding which Idaho legislators they support, and how they handle various pieces of legislation. He says,

“It looks to me like ICL supports the legislators who support its bills, without regard for the rest of their voting records. However, if a lawmaker supported a different pro-life bill, such as the heartbeat bill championed by the IFPC, then ICL has no problem attacking them, no matter how mendaciously.”

He concludes his article by advising,

“It’s time for faithful donors to Idaho Chooses Life to start asking some tough questions, and it’s time for David Ripley to answer them.”

  1. Kari Lake “doesn’t pretend to understand the circumstances and feelings of every woman.”
I guess if your feelings justify it you can choose murder? Surely if you have never murdered anyone then who are you to judge?
Protect unborn life now or they will come for your elderly next.
A civilized nation does not kill it’s offspring.
    It is inhumane.
    Stay human!

  2. I attended the event and do not recall Kari mentioning abortion during her dynamic motivational speech. A lot of other topics of interest were addressed, which you failed to cover. Interesting that Idaho Dispatch focused on that one topic.

    1. Good afternoon Ann,

Our interview was not meant to be a wrap up of her presentation nor did we know the subject matter as our interview was conducted prior to the event. We decided at that time to give her the opportunity to respond to the Press Release from Idaho Chooses Life.

Kari Lake discussed military funding, FISA, and illegal immigration in our interview. Have you watched the linked Rumble video yet?

  3. There is no use quibbling over an abortion law that leaves so many gaping holes to still allow for child murder. The so-called exceptions, like in the case of rape or incest, do nothing to right the wrong the victim experienced. An abortion would further victimize her, while her child is executed for the crime of her father. Even the pro-abortionists know a human life is ended by abortion, (the science on that is hard to refute), they just don’t care. Abortion is a necessary element of the immoral, sexually perverse lifestyle they chose to live by. Experience proves that abortion restriction laws do not decrease the numbers of pre-born humans murdered. Somehow, every abortion gets reclassified to qualify for the exceptions. And who is going to say they are lying about the weeks gestation, or circumstances of conception? Everyone involved has an incentive to do it, either monetary for the abortion industry or getting out of an inconvenient jam for the parents. Killing a child at 15 weeks is no different than killing her at 2 years old, same child, same crime of murder.

    1. how thoughtful of you to assume the victim of a rape would be re-victimized by having an abortion. Or perhaps you should let her choose her own path after such a heinous crime. Stay in your lane.

  5. But Kari, I thought you were the Governot of Arizona! You said so.
Than why aren’t you enforcing the law?

  6. “Abortion” is the cleaned up name for a barbaric procedure where a Mother willingly allows a satanic institution, through a godless and greedy “Doctor” to murder her baby. This procedure is satanic in nature and goes all the way back to the Old Testament where unbelievers would sacrifice their offspring to the satanic god baal:

    Psalms 106:37
“Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,”
    King James Version (KJV)

This procedure is well pleasing to the devil. The LORD forms each child in the womb, and He alone is the creator of life, thus when we murder God’s creation we are sinning against Him. A most serious violation.

    Jeremiah 1:5
“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
    King James Version (KJV)

So called abortion was unthinkable at the founding of this once great nation. The majority population were Protestants (fleeing the bloody domination of the Roman Catholic Church in Europe) and were serious Bible readers, unlike today’s Americans who by and large are Bible illiterate. The only people that practiced such abominations at that time in the US were satanists and witches, who were a small minority. Because these things have been “legalized” by our godless leaders since 1973, many people think it’s okay and it’s “a woman’s right to choose.” They will be judged by the Lord for these wicked things. It’s better to be judged by men now, and repent and get saved, then to be judged by God at the Great White Throne Judgement, and it be too late to repent then.

    Ecclesiastes 8:11
“Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.”
    King James Version (KJV)

Kari Lake has proven that she is not a believer in Jesus Christ. I pray for her salvation and that she understands acceptance in this present evil world (Galatians 1:4), mean nothing compared to an eternity burning in the lake of fire for being a rejector of Jesus Christ (John 3:3).

    Revelation 20:15
“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
    King James Version (KJV)

What I don’t understand about todays “conservatives” is what exactly are they conserving? Sadly nothing. Many of the leading con-servatives (including vaccine pusher Trump) accept transgenderism (confusion), homosexuals (sodomites), feminism (the destruction of the family), so called abortion (child sacrifice), etc etc. Sadly they are helping lead us into Satans nwo, which will usher in the anti-christ.

True conservatives need representatives who unapologetically hold to that which is right. May God raise up godly men who hold to the truth found in His word the King James Bible.
