Breaking: BSU Women’s Volleyball Refuses to Play Male Player, Ending Their Season
By Greg Pruett • November 27, 2024The Boise State Broncos women’s volleyball team announced they will forfeit their semi-final match against San Jose State University Spartans, officially ending their season.
SJSU’s women’s team has a male player, Blaire Flemming. BSU was one of five teams that forfeited matches against the Spartans, including two during the regular season.
BSU players celebrated a three sets to one victory after defeating the Utah State University Aggies. Sadly, the women were forced into a situation where they had to keep taking a stand for what is right versus playing in a match against SJSU, which has a player who should not be allowed on the team.
A statement from the school was reported by KTVB’s sports reporter Jay Tust, who posted the statement on X that says,
“The decision to not continue to play in the 2024 Mountain West Volleyball Championship tournament was not an easy one. Our team overcame forfeitures to earn a spot in the tournament field and fought for the win over Utah State in the first round on Wednesday. They should not have to forgo this opportunity while waiting for a more thoughtful and better system that serves all athletes.”
Will the NCAA or Mountain West make changes this offseason to protect women’s sports?
