Press Release: Idaho Special Olympics Athletes to compete in USA games with an opportunity to qualify for World Games.

Idaho – June 5, 2022 — Special Olympics Idaho is excited to announce 22 athletes/36 total delegates from across Idaho will be traveling to Orlando, FL on June 3, 2022, to compete in the Special Olympics USA Games! Games kick off is June 5 and Games continue through June 12. The Games will showcase more than 5,500 athletes and coaches from around the country competing in front of more than 125,000 spectators and supporters.

Athletes have been training and competing for over 3 years and have qualified in Idaho to compete with the nation. Idaho Athletes will compete in football, track and field, golf, bowling, powerlifting and bocce ball.

Athletes compete at various venues throughout Orlando including Disney’s Coronado Springs, Exploria Stadium, ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex and Orange County National Golf Center to name a few. If our athletes qualify at USA Games, they will be invited to attend Special Olympics World Games being held in Berlin, Germany in 2023.

About Special Olympics Idaho: Established in 1971, Special Olympics Idaho “SOID” celebrated its’ 50th Anniversary last year. SOID was the host for Special Olympics World Winter Games in 2009. The mission of Special Olympics Idaho is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
