Press Release: Congressman Fulcher Sends Letter Pressing New Twitter CEO to End Censorship of Conservatives
By Press Release • December 18, 2021The following Press Release was sent out by Congressman Russ Fulcher (R). Note: Press Releases sent out by elected officials do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of those at the Idaho Dispatch.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Serving on the House Republican Big Tech, Censorship, and Data Task Force, Congressman Fulcher joined Task Force Leader McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (R-NY), and his task force colleagues in a letter to Twitter Chief Executive Officer Parag Agrawal pressing him to clarify how he will end censorship of conservatives, uphold the First Amendment, and ensure the company does not interfere in future elections.
The new CEO of Twitter, Parag Agrawal, assumed the position on November 29, 2021. Many have expressed concern over his behavior as CEO, particularly his comment made in an interview last year, that Twitter should, “focus less on thinking about free speech.”
AdvertisementThe Members write, “As you know, Twitter enjoys liability protections under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Unfortunately, Twitter has abused these privileges time and again. Despite your past comments supporting censorship, we remain hopeful that your time leading Twitter will be spent working to uphold the ideals that made your platform’s success possible and that have made our country the most prosperous in the world.”
Congressman Fulcher added, “It’s not Mr. Agrawal’s decision to ignore free speech rights guaranteed for each and every American—these are not up for debate. Mr. Agrawal must choose between honoring every American’s right to free speech on his platform or forfeiting Twitter’s liability protections under Section 230 of the CDA. Twitter cannot continue to censor conservative speech while hiding behind Section 230. Mr. Agrawal simply cannot have it both ways.”
Additional signers of the letter are Reps. Buddy Carter (GA-01), Bob Latta (OH-05), Gus Bilirakis (FL-12), Dan Bishop (NC-09), Michael Cloud (TX-27), Jake LaTurner (KS-02), Ben Cline (VA-06), Bill Huizenga (MI-02), Madison Cawthorn (NC-11), Tim Walberg (MI-07).

That’s all fine and thanks.
Yet the simple correction here is for the masses to abandon Twitter and drive it into bankruptcy.
Both Twitter and Facebook have enough competition, with more on the way, that these political agenda platforms can be dismissed and ignored. They are simply no longer needed at all. Let them die in their self poisoned rhetoric.
Please Idaho
don’t let the democrats destroy your freedom like king Jay Inslee has in Washington!
Dear Congressman Fulcher, The replacement for Dorsey is 10X worse, meaning hating the Christian/Conservative/Trump voters, so your letter begging him to be nice to conservatives will go in the wastepaper basket.
It’s like saying to Mr. Wolf, please, please, Mr. Wolf, don’t eat me, as the wolf’s mouth is drooling in anticipation of a tasty meal. Give me a break Fulcher, you can’t be that stupid!
Please don’t confuse politeness with weakness. Congressman Fulcher politely put a warning shot over Twitter’s bow. If Twitter fails to behave in a civilized manner, and if actual conservatives take control of Congress, the protection Twitter enjoys today will disappear.
In another comment, Idaho Seven wrote that Twitter will die on it’s own. Idaho Seven is right, but taking away legal protection will make it happen faster. Why? Because when Twitter has liability for what appears on it’s site, they will crack down on a lot of content and people will find it dull and leave.
Where are our OTHER 3 D.C. representatives on this? I applaud Rep. Fulcher’s appropriate warning to Twitter, which should be joined by ALL of our reps.
