Parents Line Up to Opt Kids Out of Masking Requirement in West Ada School District

By • August 25, 2021

The West Ada School District recently passed a masking requirement for students and staff.

However, students may opt-out of masking if their parents sign a waiver. Today, hundreds of parents lined up to opt their kids out of the masking requirement.

The waiver (pictured at the end of the article) tells parents that their decision to opt their kids out of the masking requirement goes against the “recommendations of Central District Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the West Ada School District.”

The statement also says that if their student is exposed to COVID-19 while not wearing a mask, they may have to quarantine for 10-14 days.

On the “Mask Requirement Opt-Out Form,” the district also says they reserve the right to terminate the agreement at any time if health conditions change. Additionally, the district says that masks will still be required to be worn on school transportation.

Idaho Dispatch asked our readers how they felt about the West Ada School District masking requirement, including the opt-out option.

Someone named “Robbo” said,

If you can opt out, what is the point of mandating it in the first place. Waste of time and effort.

Another commenter, someone named Kyle said,

There should be no mandate to start with. Anyone who wants to wear a mask can and those who don’t shouldn’t have to.

At the time of this writing, none of the commenters said they disagreed with the opt-out option on the Facebook post Idaho Dispatch made. Many of the comments agreed with the option to opt-out, and several other commenters said there shouldn’t be a requirement in the first place.

One commenter did say they disagreed with the option to opt-out but felt that parents should just send their kids to school without masks and not sign a form.

Idaho Dispatch spoke with one parent, who wished to remain anonymous, who chose to opt their kids out of the masking requirement. Here is what they told us on why they chose to do so:

We decided to opt out of the mask guidelines due to overwhelming scientific evidence that doesn’t support the need for kids to wear masks. The science shows that masks are actually more harmful for kids to wear, and it is our duty as parents to make the health decisions for our children…not the school board.

What do you think of the West Ada School District policy? Do you believe there should be a mandate, no mandate, or an option to “opt-out” with a mandate?

Let us know in the comments below.

  1. If our taxpayer dollars followed the child/parent decision, then the parents could not only say no to unconstitutional mask mandates, these parents could also move their kids out of the teachers union socialist schools and into an actual place of learning.

  2. So after getting the child free of the mask, there’s snippets or whole pages of CRT, Common Core nonsense and a whole lot of historical revisionism going on. I guess 1 out of 4 ain’t bad.

  3. I applaud the parents for letting their kids opt out. Mask mandates should never have been in place to begin with.

  4. The parent’s should rather opt their children out of the public education system entirely.

  5. Parents are the ultimate medical authority of their own children. If parents believe masks cause more harm than good, the school district should not mandate them.

  6. I would never sign something that says if my unmasked child was “exposed” to covid they would have to stay home for 10-14 days. Just exposure because of not wearing a mask leads to quarantine? – Masks don’t stop transmission or exposure, vaccines don’t stop transmission and exposure, nothing stops a virus from being a virus except Level 4 Biohazard Personal Protective Equipment. Which apparently didn’t even stop this virus from escaping the Wuhan lab.

  7. Rather parents should have been given the option to opt in. I believe more than 31% would have shown up if they had had more time to learn about the form needed and the deadline. We learned on the same day and rushed down to submit it.
This is none other than government out of control seeking to control us. Seriously.
