Bannock County Votes to Be a “Protected 2nd Amendment County”
By Greg Pruett • February 25, 2021A number of municipalities throughout the state of Idaho continue to pass resolutions regarding the 2nd Amendment.
From Nampa to Gooding to Saint Anthony, counties and cities are passing resolutions to express their support for the right to keep and bear arms. Some cities and counties, such as Fairfield and Camas County, have also declined to pass such resolutions citing a state law that was passed in 2014 that made Idaho a “2nd Amendment Sanctuary” state.
More proposals are being considered across the state.
Yesterday, the Bannock County Commissioners passed their own resolution titled, “Declaring Bannock County to be a Second Amendment Protected County.”
The vote to pass the resolution was unanimous.
The official “Bannock County” Facebook page had the following post along with an image of the resolution:
Today the Commissioners of Bannock County signed resolution 2021-19 Declaring Bannock County to be a Protected Second Amendment County. This declaration serves to protect the citizens of Bannock County from confiscation of firearms, ammunition, magazines, or firearm accessories, except those used in the commission of a felony or those that are in possession by a convicted felon as defined by Idaho laws.

Additionally, the Commissioners recognize and support the discretion of the Bannock County Sheriff to refuse to enforce any Federal mandate that infringes on the Second Amendment rights of Bannock County citizens.
Commissioner Jeff Hough (R) posted the following statement on his Facebook page after the passage of the resolution:
I am proud to announce that today we passed our resolution protecting the 2nd Amendment in Bannock County.
This declaration serves to protect the citizens of Bannock County from confiscation of firearms, ammunition, magazines, or firearm accessories, except those used in the commission of a felony or those that are in possession of a convicted felon as defined by Idaho laws.
Additionally, the Commissioners recognize and support the discretion of the Bannock County Sheriff to refuse to enforce any Federal mandates that infringe on the Second Amendment rights. of Bannock County citizens.
Idaho Dispatch has reached out to the Bannock County Republican and Democrat parties for comment on the passage of the resolution. Neither party has responded to our request for comment at this time.
What do you think of the 2nd Amendment Sanctuary movement?
Are they unnecessary because of state law or something that needs to be done here in Idaho? Let us know in the comments below.

Congratulations Bannock County, and a Thank You to You and all the rest of the Cities and Counties in Idaho who are protecting us, protecting our rights.
I think it is important for each county to put in place their own 2nd amendment protections. Each county would then be able to follow their own course, this would help incase Idaho as a state folds to the gun grabbers.
