Which Idaho Elected Officials Support or Oppose Prop 1?
By Greg Pruett • September 10, 2024Which Idaho elected officials support or oppose Proposition 1?
Idaho Dispatch is compiling a list of current elected officials who support or oppose Prop 1. The measure will be on the November 5 ballot. The list will include whether Idaho’s elected officials support or oppose Prop 1 or whether their position is unknown.
Prop 1 will do two things, according to the “Long Title” on the ballot:
“First, this measure would abolish Idaho’s party primaries. Under current law, political parties nominate candidates through primary elections in which party members vote for a candidate to represent the party in the general election.
The initiative creates a system where all candidates participate in a top-four primary and voters may vote on all candidates. The top four vote-earners for each office would advance to the general election. Candidates could list any affiliation on the ballot, but would not represent political parties, and need not be associated with the party they name.”
“Second, the measure would require a ranked-choice voting system for the general election. Under current law, voters may select one candidate for each office, and the candidate with the most votes wins. Under the ranked-choice voting system, voters rank candidates on the ballot in order of preference, but need not rank every candidate.
AdvertisementThe votes are counted in successive rounds, and the candidate receiving the fewest votes in each round is eliminated. A vote for an eliminated candidate will transfer to the voter’s next-highest-ranked active candidate. The candidate with the most votes in the final round wins.”
Here is a list of current elected officials (congressional, statewide, and legislative) in Idaho and whether or not they support or oppose Prop 1 or whether their stance is currently unknown. If a candidate listed has made a stance we are unaware of, please send updates or corrections to greg@idahodispatch.com.
When possible, the word “Opposed” or “Support” will hyperlink to a source from news or social media with the elected official’s stance. If a * is next to “Unknown,” Idaho Dispatch has contacted the elected official. Each additional star indicates a different method we contacted the individual through. “Direct Message” indicates Idaho Dispatch has or has seen a direct message stating support or opposition to Prop 1.
Update: We have changed the elected official’s name to a red color if they are opposed, green if they are in favor, purple if they will not take a stance, or left it black if their stance has not been confirmed. This was done to help delineate the difference between support/opposed because the hyperlink color is the same and made it hard for people to see where elected officials stood on the issue.
Note: A candidate may have a position that is listed as unknown. Candidates listed as unknown may only be that way because Idaho Dispatch could not find their position online or through direct communication.

I’m excited for Prop 1 to pass so we can get these far right out-of-state politicians who do nothing to improve the lives of all citizens of Idaho out of the state house. This seems to be compiling a list of reps that oppose the will of the people, so thanks for that.
Vote yes on Prop 1 people! The Idaho GOP thinks you’re dumb, prove them wrong.
Near 100% of Republican legislators opposed RCV when they banned it last year. Even the governor signed the measure. Donald Trump won Idaho with 63% of the votes. It would appear that you are a stark minority. Take your extremism back to Portland, Chunk.
That’s just asinine, Bobby. I’ve never lived in Portland. The extremists doing the most damage to Idaho are the likes of Scott Herndon (VA) and Heather Scott (CA, I’m pretty sure).
The people of Idaho put this on the ballot. When Reclaim Idaho continues to defy the laziness and malicious ineptitude of the legislature by passing Medicaid Expansion and getting Little to fund public schools adequately, you have to wonder who is in the minority: Dorothy Moon and no-backbone blowhards who worship an authoritarian that cares about no one except himself, or the bi-partisan coalition of citizens getting the facts out about this proposition. This includes higher profile Republicans who have publicly endorsed Prop 1 (https://yesforopenprimaries.com/rop), Veterans’ groups, independent voters, and Mormon Women for Ethical Government.
I only see one Republican in the house and one in the senate that support Prop 1. Thats some Republican majority! The real majority of both Republicans and Democrats remain unknown where they stand. No Democrats oppose Prop 1. Regardless of majorities, you should be looking into this in terms of what is best for Idaho. Otherwise, you look like the kind of “leadership” that determines which way the marching band is going and jumps in front to look like you are leading the band.
When you wrote “blowhards who worship an authoritarian that cares about no one except himself”, do you mean to say you suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome?
Really?? I’ve been here in Idaho for 52 years, since 1972. I’m not going anywhere and I’ll educate voters on the Rank Choice Voting because it’s the only way to take the control out of the hands of extremists!! Our state is too great to be ruined by the authoritarianism lovers. We will stay and stand our ground for what is BEST for Idaho!! You best get out of our way!!
Take you little pupetts Barb and Chad with you!!
They aren’t out of state politicians. The majority are local right wing extremists and they need to be voted out!!
Democrat definition of “far-right extremist” =
> Oppose open borders and government-assisted invasion
> Oppose transexual surgery on minors
> Oppose killing unborn babies as a form of birth control
> Oppose pornography in school libraries
> Support school choice
> Support low inflation and low unemployment
> Support American citizens first over illegal invaders
> Support energy independence
> Oppose unending wars around the world
> Oppose forced vaccinations, lockdowns, and social distancing
> Support common sense and common decency
Well said!!
Anyone to the right of Pol Pot is now considered a ‘Far-Right Extremist’ by the global collectivist, Ukrainian Nazi supporting, extremist Democrat Party.
“right wing extremists”? Patriotic American citizens refer to them/US as…”solid Americans”, or…on a very local level, Idahoans. So, we can conclude that you have been wrong about America’s Constitution…”since 1972″.
Perhaps if people thought their vote would count for something, more would go out and vote. As far as national elections, even I feel like it’s a waste of my time going to the polls as I’m easily outnumbered by the right wing extremists, but I keep going anyway.
RCV is the ONLY way every person’s vote will actually count.
YES!! VOTE YES!! PROP 1
VOTE YES!!
Prop 1, Ranked Choice Voting, is supported, endorsed and financed by the Idaho Democratic Party, the DNC, Idaho’s RINOs and the American COMMUNIST PARTY.
This alone tells me all I need to know about this dangerous proposition!!!
If you want to keep Idaho a conservative Republican state, vote against it.
If you want to change Idaho to a blue liberal demoncratic state, please LEAVE IDAHO!!!
EXACTLY. Another Democrat ploy to allow more election fraud.
VOTE NO on PROP 1
Absolutely not! The system is not broken and this is gobbledygook nonsense. No on Prop 1
Ranked choice voting is a complicated farce, and they hope people will be confused by it and not see how ridiculous it is. Too bad the communists are infiltrating even in Idaho!
I saw what ranked choice voting did elsewhere. It’s an abomination. Vote no.
Will of the people? Ask Alaskans about RCV – because they’re trying to repeal it. What did RCV get them? It got them Lisa Murkowski even though she would have been defeated in a standard primary!
You’re dumb if you believe Prop 1 is going to do anything other than be manipulated to benefit Democrats. Primary votes are there to put forth the best candidate from each party – ONE candidate – as opposed to having multiple candidates tear each other down and let a third- or fourth-choice candidate (a Democrat) win.
Those who have educated themselves on Prop 1 know that it is a violation of the privilege to vote for ONE and only ONE candidate – not parse votes out to those who DID NOT earn them.
And yes, Chuck, those wanting Prop 1 are NOT from Idaho.

In my opinion actually contacting legislators to get their stance would give credibility to articles written for Dispatch. Vote No on Prop 1 rank choice voting is not good for Idaho.
Janet Moyle
Why would anyone who cares about elections want this? We barely have a 15% voter participation in the best years and less % more than that the rest of the time. Anyone who factors in voter participation percentages and believe this initiative would encourage more people to vote- seriously; get a clue.
YES!! VOTE YES!! PROP 1
VOTE YES!!
Jill, there has been embarrassingly low voter participation for many years due to voter apathy. That participation continues to decrease due to flagrant fraud in the counting of votes, especially by the computerized vote counting systems. Remember the graph of the vote count over time for the 2020 presidential election? Trump’s votes were outpacing Biden’s until 2am when EVERY vote counted went to Biden, going vertical on the graph. While this is statistically impossible other than a dump of emergency Biden ballots at 2am to surge ahead, the voters saw how their votes don’t matter. You can’t just vote harder next time to overcome the fraudulent vote counting. In case you are thinking this is a partisan issue, blaming Democrats for vote fraud, remember there are crooked Republicans that do the same. Honest, transparent elections serve us all, regardless of party. Wouldn’t that improve voter participation?
So when you’re outnumbered and outvoted, it “just isn’t fair”, because your will is not law, but when you outnumber and outvote the others, that’s the only way elections can be “fair”.
Sounds alot like the “our democracy” concept of late, which is the opposite of majority rule. In your mind “democracy” simply means you always win, no matter what.
This is as childish and spoiled as it gets. “Mommy, they don’t play fair, because I lost.” Listen to yourself, and imagine republicans saying the exact same thing. Imagine us claiming that when democrats are a majority, then elections can’t be fair.
I take pride knowing that my vote will nullify yours.
Mike Moyle is opposed to Prop 1. His newsletter “Moyle Minute” has an article on this subject and can be accessed by you. Please update your list to show Moyle as being opposed to Prop 1.
Mark Eaton
Chairman, Legislative District 10 (Republican)
“Unknown.” is a copout.
Using some made up screen name is a cop out.
Dustin Manwaring authored the Republican House Caucuses opposition to RCV. At least on the surface, he has opposed Prop 1.
Comments impersonating other individuals will be removed. We don’t require you to do anything to comment—we have left it that way for a long time. But if people continue to impersonate others, we will have no choice but to ban them completely and start forcing everyone to use real email addresses to comment.
Better yet, have them use their real names….
NO FOR PROP ONE
Idahoans should be allowed to vote PEOPLE over PARTY!
Vote YES on PROP 1!
The only way to justify allowing Democrats to choose the Republican candidates (or any other party combination) is to not know the purpose of the primary elections. How does it make sense for people of an opposition party to choose candidates for the party they oppose?
Andie, “How does it make sense for people of an opposition party to choose candidates for the party they oppose?”
Let’s just be blunt, and cut to the chase: they want to make vote counting confusing and vague enough to make any outcome both questionable and plausible.
This will of course mean that whoever counts, or “figures” the votes, will have enough leeway to manipulate the outcome.
It’s a clever way to implement Stalin’s observation that it’s not who gets the most votes, but who counts them, that matters. This is a democrat’s wet dream.
No Sam.
We are no longer tolerant of Marxists.
The door is that way.
More rules and a more complicated system leads to more confusion and more potential shenanigans. San Fran originated and left-wing funded in a conservative state….stank choice voting is a better name. If they were honest, then they would not back common sense folk into a corner as if this is the answer. Smoke and mirrors and misdirection. If you thought 2020 fraud was and issue……
Who really cares what the politicians think about this?
They voted to ban RCV.
Now someone thinks that we should change that by becoming a democracy. Just like Medicaid Expansion, this will harm Idaho.
Let’s focus on eliminating BALLOT INITIATIVES.
Prop 1 is a marxist scheme. Liberals cannot win fairly, so they need a voting system that lets them cheat. Liberals think debauchery is freedom. Keep your hands off our children you freaks!
Thank you, Bob, for summarizing the truth.
I look at anyone who’s position is “Unknown” is for it. The Democrats who supports it may as well just say theyr are as everyone knows they are communists. Our RINO Simpson is “Unknown”. He needs to be out of office, but it looks like we will have him yet again, just so he can vote against Trump. Simpsons TDS runs deep.
If ranked choice voting passes we will have less voter participation because people will have lower faith in the count. It is a scam. NO ON PROP 1
I see a few Marxists out here today in support of the biggest farce of a voting system in US history. It represents what is typically referred to as a pure democracy, and as far as I can tell, pure democracies have always failed by devolving into dictatorships and ultimately to the demise of the nation. RCV promotes this very thing and we can see its failure in every state it has been implemented in.
This republic has succeeded as designed and there is absolutely no reason to change it. Democrats only desire power and ultimately slavery of the population through any means necessary.
Vote no on PooP 1. Do not fall victim to Democrat propaganda and falsehoods.
WOW, there are obviously many more people that need to wake up, even here in Idaho. This will not be a normal election. Much of the fraud of the past will be exposed and many of the traitors will be removed. We are about to see one of the greatest moments in history unfold before our eyes. It will be a tough pill for many to swallow, but the future will prove to be much better than we have known before.
