Congressman Simpson’s office sent the same response as quoted below from the Daily Caller.

Original Story Below

————————-

Former President Donald Trump criticized Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson (R) for voting “No” on Congressman Andrew Clyde’s (R-GA) amendment, which would defund the prosecution of a presidential candidate before the November election.

The vote failed 26 to 25. Simpson voted “no,” saying it would set a bad precedent and prevent Republicans from going after President Joe Biden for his “wrongdoings.”

Trump posted the following on his Truth Social account in response to the vote:

“Just heard from Great Congressman Andrew Clyde of Georgia that the Amendment to Defund the Prosecution of a Presidential Candidate prior to November’s Election did not pass, 26-25 –

– It lost by only one vote, because one Republican, Mike Simpson of Idaho, stupidly voted NO, and two “Republicans,” David Valadao of California and Dan Newhouse of Washington, the only two remaining Impeachers in the House of President Donald J. Trump, didn’t show up to vote.

They must have had more important things to do. Also, Mike Garcia of California, David Joyce of Ohio, and Juan Ciscomani of Arizona, didn’t show up to vote. Thanks very much, fellas, for your great support!”

Trump’s criticism was also pointed at other Republicans who did not show up to vote. Clyder expressed similar criticism as Trump did.

Clyde posted a response on his X account after the failed amendment, saying,

“BREAKING: The House Appropriations Committee DID NOT adopt my amendment to defund the Left’s lawfare against President Trump.

Why?

Not enough Republicans showed up to vote.

Utter disgrace.

But the fight isn’t over. Stay tuned.”

The Clyde Amendment would have prohibited the Attorney General’s office from using its funds to try and prosecute a currently declared presidential candidate.

Clyde’s Amendment states, in full,

“None of the funds made available for the Department of Justice under section 101 may be used, prior to November 5, 2024, to prosecute a person that is a declared candidate for President of the United States as of the date of enactment of this Act.”

Idaho Dispatch contacted Congressman Mike Simpson’s office for a response to Trump, but we have not received one at this time. However, Simpson is quoted in the Daily Caller saying,

“I firmly believe the trials against President Trump are politically motivated and utter nonsense. I am grateful the Supreme Court has acted as a balancing force against the Democrats’ weaponization of the judicial system. However, prohibiting the use of funds for investigations sets a dangerous precedent – potentially limiting Republicans’ ability to investigate President Biden’s wrongdoings. For that reason, I could not support this amendment.”

Simpson and Trump have both endorsed each other for the 2024 election cycle.

  1. lmk when we are great again, the swamp is drained, and the wall is built. i need a good laugh.

      1. A big rino ! He and the rest of the bought off Rinos who didnt show up to vote all need to be gone…………………..

  2. People like this have no business anywhere near political office let alone flipping burgers.

  3. Press on Mr Cleveland, so sorry you lost to him in this year’s primary. The Rinos of Idaho, especially the Southern, are closing in on the conservative movement of Idaho. Simpson is their pawn.

    1. A LOT of RINOs were shot down in the May primary. There are many more to get rid of and we’re not done yet.

  4. Simpson tries to make a point but falls short. While we do want to be able to go after any ex president for valid crimes, the bill would have prevented aware on “candidates”. A word he unfortunately missed

  5. Like the DOJ is gonna prosecute Biden. Like when? Simpson is a tool. Simpson is in the good ol boy club.

  6. The issue with Simpson. Stopped being a conservative Republican almost as soon as he was elected to Congress. Was not an Idaho citizen when elected in Idaho. Is a member of the largest cult in America, (Mormon). Idaho is home to a large population of these cult members. Mass infestation in south eastern Idaho. Cult members rarely and are not allowed to turn against other cult members. Mormonism has its own agenda, power, wealth, control, domination of all American institutions. Mike Simpson has hated Donald Trump from the time of Trumps election and even before that. Has used curse words in interviews to emphasize his distain for Pres Trump.
Finally Simpson will never be voted out and will continue to work against everything and everyone not Mormon and that is not aligned with their secret anti Christian, anti American agenda.
    MYSTERY BABYLON.

  7. Simpson’s big mantra as to taking out the dams comes directly from the Global Biodiversity Assessment published by U N E P in 1995 & 96. Remember we live in the middle of Y 2 Y. though certain local U S F S employees like Milligan deny any knowledge of it.
