Senators Risch and Crapo Back Legislation Safeguarding Veterans’ Gun Rights
By Greg Pruett • May 8, 2025Idaho Senators Jim Risch (R) and Mike Crapo (R) have cosponsored legislation to protect veterans’ gun rights.
What’s Happening: Earlier this week, we posted about a bill, S. 478 (H.R. 1041 in the House), that did not have either senator’s name on it on the congressional website. Rep. Russ Fulcher (CD-1) was already signed onto the House version.
Both bills are identical, and the purpose of the legislation is to ensure that veterans who have an appointed fiduciary do not have their firearms confiscated based solely on having a fiduciary. Veterans and gun rights have been a significant concern for years, especially since the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Many veterans feel uncomfortable getting help because they are concerned that the Department of Veterans Affairs will confiscate their firearms.
Digging Deeper: Risch’s team reached out to me on the day we released the first article and said that Risch was a cosponsor, but the congressional website had not yet added his name. Risch’s name is added, and the date reflects his addition as the date before our article was published.
Idaho Dispatch asked Risch’s Press Secretary, Madison Hardy, if Risch had a statement about the legislation he wished to release. Here is what Risch had to say about S. 478:
“America’s veterans should not be penalized and stripped of their Second Amendment rights for receiving assistance managing their benefits from the VA. The Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act ends this serious injustice and safeguards the constitutional rights of our veterans.”

With Risch, Crapo, and Fulcher on board, Rep. Mike Simpson is the only member of Idaho’s delegation not on the Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act.

Now, let’s look into dental for ALL Veterans. If we have bad teeth, we cannot eat healthy, and our overall health suffers.
They’ll remove your outy and give you an inny and a lifetime of supporting meds, but won’t fix your teeth.
Obama tried this as an end run around the 2nd Amend. via Executive Order during his presidency, depriving thousands of elderly veterans of their 2nd Amend. rights. It would be good to have this legislated to prevent a similar problem in the future.
It figures that RINO Simpson wouldn’t sign on.
thats pretty cool they did something besides extort americans
These people are a joke, they do nothing but ride on Trumps coattails then tell you how hard they are working for you.
You now Crapo voted no on the funding bill sure is funny that you don’t see anything on that from Crap.
