Satanic Temple of Idaho Holds ‘Satanic Prayer’ in Idaho Capitol

By • July 26, 2021

Idaho Dispatch received several inquiries regarding an event that took place today at the Idaho Capitol.

The group putting on the event was the Satanic Temple of Idaho. The organization is part of a national chapter of a non-profit organization known as the Satanic Temple.

The Idaho chapter of the Satanic Temple held a Satanic Prayer at the capitol earlier today.

Idaho Dispatched asked the group what the purpose of their event at the capitol was today. Shaun Kobal, the head of the Satanic Temple of Idaho, told Idaho Dispatch he is an ‘ordained minister of Satan’ and told us the following about their event at the Capitol today:

We held a Satanic Prayer in the Idaho Capitol Rotunda.

Our event was to practice our deeply held religious beliefs in the public square, in a building built to represent all Idahoans, not just a majority class.

Several Idahoans asked if the group actually worships Satan. From the group’s own website, they say they do not believe in ‘superstitious’ entities.

Here is what the Satanic Temple says about Satan:

No, nor do we believe in the existence of Satan or the supernatural. The Satanic Temple believes that religion can, and should, be divorced from superstition. As such, we do not promote a belief in a personal Satan. To embrace the name Satan is to embrace rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism and archaic tradition-based superstitions. Satanists should actively work to hone critical thinking and exercise reasonable agnosticism in all things. Our beliefs must be malleable to the best current scientific understandings of the material world — never the reverse.

Idaho Dispatch also heard that some Christians had shown up to pray over the Capitol. An image was provided to the Idaho Dispatch courtesy of Dan Murphy of the Christians praying at the Capitol.

Here is one of the images sent to us (story continues below):

Idaho Dispatch heard at least one claim that the Christian worshippers had ‘scared off’ the Satanic Temple of Idaho individuals.

Kobal gave Idaho Dispatch the following statement regarding the Christians who showed up today during their event:

We completed our event. They have every right to protest us, just as we have every right to be heard in the public forum. We gave our speech from the steps and then read our prayer in the rotunda, leaving them to practice their own deeply held religious beliefs in peace.

Idaho Dispatch also asked our readers what they thought of the event taking place in Idaho’s Capitol building.

Most of the commenters say they do not believe in the group or what the group is doing, but they believe they have a right to exercise their rights as any group does.

  1. Liberty and justice for all, not just the who hold the same beliefs as you. Personal belief systems should not become public policy.

  2. The fact that they call themselves the Satanic temple of Idaho and yet they claim to not believe in Satan is interesting. To each his owne but they sound confused to me.

  3. But the cowards, unbelievers, vile, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars — their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
    Revelation 21:8 HCSB

How long will this continue in the minds of the prophets prophesying lies, prophets of the deceit of their own minds?
    Jeremiah 23:26 HCSB

For the wealthy of the city are full of violence, and its residents speak lies; the tongues in their mouths are deceitful.

    Not my Words, But GOD…..

  4. If we’re going to have something of a low shrubbery of separation of church and state anyway, I’m happy to see more of my Satanic friends delivering invocations

  5. One, if they do not believe in an actual Satan, then why say “Hail Satan!”? If they do not believe in ‘superstition’ then why not just call themselves ‘atheists’? An atheist doesn’t believe in God or Satan. I find their reasoning flawed.
Secondly, no, they do not have the same right to have a prayer to the devil over our state. That is like DAMNING all of Idaho. Our founding fathers were NOT tolerant of other religions. They believed in ONE Creator God who made everything and all of us as described in the Bible. They were of course open and tolerant of all different denominations of the Christian faith.

    1. It was literally in the article Karen “we do not promote a belief in a personal Satan. To embrace the name Satan is to embrace rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism and archaic tradition-based superstitions.”
We hail a belief in personal freedom, as long as it doesn’t harm or take away someone else’s freedoms and a rationality free from religious dogma.

And your second paragraph is exactly why the Satanic Church is a thing. You guys are way too caught up in trying to make sure everyone else believes in the idea of god you were raised to believe in.

      1. What happened to the constitution.. you must be a great patriot. If you can pray to your god they can pray too. If they can’t pray in the same place you can then nobody should be allowed to pray there.

  6. A perfect representation of our politician and government employee crime gang that is raping the Idaho taxpayers.

  7. I would rather see them at the Idaho Capitol doing no harm, then on the streets tagging buildings , burning and looting business.

  8. In any sane and rational society Satanists would not be tolerated. What these people are in fact is a mockery of freedom. Just like the “freedom” children have these days to go on hormone blockers and mutilate their own sexual organs. People have lost all common-sense.

    1. Actually Karl, what these people are in fact, according to the United States government and IRS, is an official religion.

  9. Gross… Just wacky and perverted thinking is what I think. That’s the last thing we should be having pray over our Idaho ! I’m thankful some prayer warriors pushed them out!!!! Anyone that finds this acceptable needs to pack those bags and move to Trashy Salem, Oregon.

    1. Did you read the article? They didn’t push anyone put. The ritual was completed. Reading is hard. Hail Satan.

  10. It’s not two each there own, or at least there not on the streets causing damage, or whatever else comment is forgiving.

It’s flat outright pathetic is what it is! . It’s in GOD we TRUST for a reason and AMEN to that. Now carry on with you’re pack of 14 wacky followers and get bent.

Go pray over a gopher hole or something, and leave the real life important things to us grown ups !

    1. You’re right. It’s to each their own. You see “two” would be referring to the number two. “There” is for a specific place, like over there. You wanted their, which is possessive.

Don’t forget that freedom of religion is freedom from religion. Oh and that the United States government recognizes The Satanic Temple as a religion just like Mormonism, Catholicism or general Christianity.

  11. Sooo…Has anyone taken a look at the Satanic Ritual Calendar lately? We all may want to take a look for ourselves to see what other groups “believe” and “celebrate” some time. Be sure to use a browser like Duck Duck Go.
    Enlightening to say the least…

  12. I’m curious what the Satanic and Christian prayers were – As well as what was said in the speech.

Generally interested in the message/point/vibe of everyone mentioned in the article.

  13. We are acquainted with this Satanic group as we’ve seen their work in CA. Their prayers and work are of destruction. The Holy One of Israel said it best, they come to kill, rob and destroy. Neutralize them with fervent prayer and righteous work.

  14. Odd that as a christian I was taught that God is the embodiment of love, and compassion. All I am hearing here is people weaponizing scripture, and being awfully closed minded and hateful. Jesus Died on the cross to forgive others yet you people are condemning them in the name of the same God. Watching all this hate toward TST has made me realize the error of my previous ways of thinking. HS!
