Press Release: Gov. Little signs his “Leading Idaho” income tax relief bill

By • February 4, 2022

The following Press Release was sent out by Gov. Brad Little. Note: Press Releases sent out by candidates do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of those at the Idaho Dispatch.

Boise, Idaho – Governor Brad Little signed the first bill of the 2022 legislative session today – his “Leading Idaho” income tax cut bill that provides one-time and ongoing income tax relief to Idahoans.

“Never in my life did I think we would achieve the ‘TRIFECTA’ – historic tax relief, historic education investments, and historic investments in transportation in one year. Some say, ‘You can’t have your cake and eat it, too,’ but clearly we are proving them wrong here in Idaho,” Governor Little said. “Taxes should be fair, simple, competitive, and predictable, and the passage of my ‘Leading Idaho’ income tax relief bill is a step in that direction. We are making Idaho even more business friendly and competitive.”

House Bill 436 provides $350 million of tax relief through a one-time tax rebate this spring and $251 million in ongoing tax relief beginning in July by lowering income tax brackets.

“The cooperation that exists between my office and my partners in the Legislature is very important to me, and it is part of the reason we are here today. I appreciate the Idaho Legislature for making tax relief a priority,” Governor Little said.

Since Governor Little took office three years ago, we have cut nearly $1 billion in taxes, and in signing House Bill 436 today, Governor Little said we are on track to return more than $1 billion in income tax relief to Idaho taxpayers over the next five years.

Governor Little said getting more money back into the pockets of Idahoans as soon as possible is especially important because Idahoans are facing the burden of surging inflation and federal debt.

“Our country reached a grim milestone this week – the national debt, for the first time in history, exceeds $30 trillion. Meanwhile, here in Idaho, we have a record budget surplus of $1.9 billion, which represents a whopping 40-percent of our General Fund!” Governor Little said.

Governor Little’s Leading Idaho plan also makes investments in education, transportation, water, broadband and many other areas to keep up with Idaho’s record growth and ensure continued prosperity for our state.

  1. His “getting more money back into the pockets of Idahoans as soon as possible as Idahoans are facing the burden of surging inflation” would have been more believable if the legislature had included recinding the food tax that was trying to be put forward by Senator Zito.

Rino Little and his “partners in the Legislature” are a scourge to Idaho and need to go.

  2. BUT YOU ALL REFUSED TO REPEAL THE GROCERY TAX CREDIT!!!! YOU ARE A COWARD CHICKEN LITTLE!!!! YOU DO NOT DEFEND ALL IDAHOANS JUST YOUR WEALTHY BUSINESS CAMPAIGN DONORS!!! YOU HAVE NOT STOPPED IDAHO BUSINESSES FROM FORCING VACCINATIONS AS A JOB REQUIREMENT ! YOU HAVE NIT APPROVED UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS TO USAHOANS FIRED FOR NOT GETTING VACCINATIONS…TELL ME AGAIN HOW YOU ARE FOR ALL IDAHOANS????? ENLIGHTEN US ALL

  3. Sad to see how our “elected leaders” are frolicking through 1.9 Billion.
What an absolute waste of an opportunity to do what is right for the Taxpayer and Idaho.

DO NOT FOR REPUBLICAN……Do your research and Vote Conservative.

    1. I too am a conservative but we must register as Republicans by March 11. It is the lesser of two evils. The primaries are more important than ever!! Get out there and vote!
      Giddings-Lt.Gov.,
      Moon-Sec of State,
      Bundy- Governor
(McGeachin won’t debate & Ed is too new)

  4. We had a 1.9 billion dollar surplus and the best the Republicans could do was cut ongoing taxes by 251 million? Government isn’t a for profit enterprise and shouldn’t be collecting massive amounts more than they need. There is room for cuts to groceries, property taxes, sales tax and more. While I appreciate this first step it’s a very small step towards the goal.

  5. If people keep voting in the same Damned Idiots back into office, we get more of the same.

VOTE THE LIBERAL REPUBLICANS OUT of the Executive Branch, Legislative Branch and the Judicial System.

Do your homework, VOTE CONSERVATIVE….not liberal republican.

  6. And, once again, “Accomplishes Little” uses press releases filled “I, me, my, etc.” to continue his undeclared campaign. Just one more in an ever-growing series of this megalomaniac’s efforts to try and blind voters into thinking he’s a good guy with Idaho’s best interests at heart.

I don’t believe much of anything he says…and I certainly will not cast a vote for him or any who side with him. RINO’s, one and all…I will be voting CONSERVATIVE!

If you truly want to vote conservative, why not change your status to reflect it?

The following link will get you started…it couldn’t be much simpler. Change your status from the two-party mess that now exists and tell the liberals to go pound sand.

  7. It’s time for Brad Little to go. He is not a 100% “For the People” Governor. He is a RINO, and that’s not the direction Idaho wants to go. He is a “Pretend Hero”, who believes on increased government. I think this bill adds at least 30+ more governmental positions. That’s how he is spending our money!

  8. NOT enough Gov. Little! $75.00. Enough for a family of 4 to go to Carl’s Jr. Are you kidding me?? We are one of 7 states who tax our food. With inflation it is a much needed help at this time.
People, vote out these rinos: Little, Bedke, Winder. Too many good bills never seeing the light of day. These people are selling us out to woke, lobbyist, CCP —literally. Treasonous!

  10. Where is the overdue property tax reform/elimination? Where is the grocery tax repeal? Are we going to see any genuine shrinkage of government? The refund would have been better to invest in things we all need and assuage the tax burden there…..like transportation needs. Where are the new impact fees to make growth pay for itself? I can go on and on.
