McLean Fires Back at Labrador Over Flag Dispute
By Greg Pruett • April 24, 2025Boise Mayor Lauren McLean told Attorney General Raul Labrador she will not take the flags down and intends to take action against HB 96, a law the legislature passed this year that would prohibit Boise’s LGBT flag from flying on government property.
What’s Happening: For weeks now, the nation has taken notice of Boise’s flag gate as liberal encourage McLean not to take down the LGBT flag. Conservatives have expressed frustration with HB 96 lacking an enforcement mechanism, and one conservative even used a ladder to cover the flags up and fly an “Appeal to Heaven” flag.
Despite Labrador’s request, Mclean said in her letter to him, in part,
“We believe HB96 is legally defective and unenforceable as written, and plan to challenge HB96 on a variety of legal bases. The legislature knowingly failed to include and civil or criminal penalties. Further, given the true purpose of HB96 we anticipate that, if enforced, HB96 will be enforced in an improper, selective manner. In fact, we’ve already seen that selective approach from your office.”
Digging Deeper: Conservative lawmakers will have a decision to make next year when it comes back into session. Will they add penalties or not? Republican lawmakers have been historically unwilling to add penalties when those penalties go after government officials.
Nevertheless, Labrador’s office sent out the following response to the Idaho Dispatch:
“The Attorney General’s Office is in possession of the Mayor’s letter. It appears the Mayor and her legal team do not understand the requirements of state law. She should follow the example of the Parma Police Department, who complied with the law upon learning of its enactment. We will continue to review every legal option under Idaho law.”
Flag gate continues for now with no end in sight, but it appears McLean intends to take the issue to the courts, where Boise judges have often been very favorable to liberals and liberal causes.

I agree
Why are Idaho’s GOP leaders so focused on changing Boise than dealing with problems of the people in the State? Seriously….who effing cares about a flag? Check in with the Parma Schools guy to see what really matters…..but Labby, Hector Scott, Rino Spoon, and the rest ONLY CARE ABOUT SMALL THINGS IN BOISE. Funny part is that all those “GOP operators” are getting owned by a lady mayor.
commie mayor > low t RINOs

She is a disgrace to laws and rules. Teaching things as this to youngsters and stupid older white people of which I am. Plus a hairdresser for 46 years, this is unacceptable to mentally stable gays, and cross dressers. But men in women’s sports and bathrooms, jail, is NOT ACCEPTABLE! None of my friends that are gay do not agree with this BULLSHIT! Stop this Mayor you are ruining it for all!
As a Veteran and Christian man, I am deeply troubled by this. I know people will say its just a flag, but if the mayor of Boise can say no to this law, what other laws will she say no to? Especially ones that have a deeper impact. Also, how dare they fly an alphabet people flag next to our Stars and Stripes!
That mayor should be ashamed of herself.
if she wants to put that flag on a flagpole outside her residence then fine.
But this is Idaho and for the most part a patriotic and Christian state.
I hope they remove her from office.
no one is above the law!
