Lt. Governor McGeachin Signs Executive Order Banning Mask Mandates in Idaho

By • May 27, 2021

Update: Gov. Little’s office released the following statement about McGeachin’s Executive Order:

Governor Little has been out of state this week collaborating with other Republican governors, and the Lt. Governor did not make Governor Little aware of her executive order ahead of time. He is expected to return to Idaho tonight. The Governor’s Office is reviewing the Lt. Governor’s executive order. Governor Little has never put in place a statewide mask mandate. Throughout the pandemic, Governor Little has been committed to protecting the health and safety of the people of Idaho and has emphasized the importance of Idahoans choosing to protect our neighbors and loved ones and keeping our economy and schools open. Idahoans value local control and the local approach to addressing important issues. An expanded statement from the Governor’s Office on the Lt. Governor’s executive order will be made available after a more thorough review of this executive action.

Original story below.

Governor Brad Little is currently out of the state of Idaho.

Lt. Governor Janice McGeachin serves as the acting governor when Little is not in Idaho. This allows McGeachin to issue executive orders and use other gubernatorial powers.

Today, McGeachin announced an Executive Order banning mask mandates in Idaho, including those in schools. Private companies can still implement their own mask policies.

Idaho Dispatch was able to film the announcement from McGeachin’s office. Here is the video of that announcement:

Idaho Dispatch also reached out to Little’s office for comment but we have not received a reply at this time.

  1. Good! Time for someone to show some spine in that office! She will definitely make a great governor, one who is clearly showing her ability right now to get things done and not sit on her, ummm, hands. Yeah, hands, that’s it.

  2. This is what I want in a Governor, someone who will fight for my children’s children, someone who does what’s right, and is on the side of Freedom! McGeachin for Governor!
