Local Idaho Hockey Club Wins National Championship

By • April 28, 2025

The Idaho Falls Spud Kings have won the national championship for the National Collegiate Development Club Dineen Cup.

What’s Happening: The Spud Kings defeated the South Shore Kings, the defending champions of the NCDC, by a score of 2 to 1. The Spud Kings are in just their third season as an organization. The team has strong local support and sells out the Mountain American Center at nearly every home game, drawing thousands of adoring fans.

During the championship run’s elimination round, Charlie Durkin, the team’s starting goalie, gave up just one goal in the team’s three games.

Digging Deeper: The Spud Kings’ run is impressive, given that they were the only team from the West competing in the tournament.

The league announced earlier this year that the Spud Kings will host the Dineen Cup next year.
