Labrador Reacts to Court-Ordered Deposition Over Fired Staffer

By • April 26, 2025

Attorney General Raul Labrador has responded to a court-ordered deposition after a fired staffer filed a lawsuit.

What’s Happening: Daphne Huang previously served as the Department of Health and Welfare’s legal counsel. In September 2023, Huang filed a lawsuit against the AG’s office and said she was fired after alleging unethical conduct in the office.

Digging Deeper: Labrador has maintained that his office did nothing wrong and said Huang was fired because she was not performing her duties to standard. In a press release, Labrador stated:

“The Attorney General has consistently maintained that Ms. Huang’s termination was based on legitimate, work-related performance issues. The effort to compel the Attorney General’s deposition runs counter to well-established legal principles that shield high-ranking government officials from precisely this type of litigation-driven harassment. All relevant information can be obtained through alternative sources, making such a deposition unnecessary. Accordingly, the Attorney General is actively exploring all available legal avenues to challenge the court’s order.“

It will be interesting to see if this issue goes before the liberal-leaning Idaho Supreme Court and what they will do in this case.
