Idaho Legislature to Return in Two Weeks

By • March 23, 2021

It has been a number of years since the Idaho legislature had a join recess.

Back in 2000, the Senate Pro-Tem, Jerry Twiggs, died of a heart attack while doing a morning run. The legislature then recessed for approximately ten days following Twigg’s death.

In recent weeks a number of Idaho lawmakers have either tested positive for COVID-19 or have the virus currently with symptoms. Speaker Scott Bedke (R-Oakley) had hinted that the House may go into recess because of the outbreak at the capitol.

Late last week, the Idaho House and Senate both said they were going to recess until April 6th due to the increase in the number of legislators testing positive or showing symptoms of COVID-19.

Here is the list of legislators who have tested positive in recent days of COVID-19:

  • Rep. Greg Chaney (R-Caldwell)
  • Rep. Julie Yamamoto (R-Caldwell)
  • Rep. Bruce Skaug (R-Nampa)
  • Rep. Lance Clow (R-Twin Falls)
  • Rep. James Ruchti (D-Pocatello)
  • Rep. Ryan Kerby (R-New Plymouth)

A number of other lawmakers have also tested positive for COVID-19 throughout the legislative session.

Current protocols at the capitol are that masks and social distancing are requested but not required. Democrat lawmakers have criticized the policies which are set by the Senate Pro-Tem and House Speaker.

Do you think the Idaho capitol should have stricter guidelines for COVID-19 or is leaving it up to each individual person the right path?

  1. Best to those who are ill, may their recovery be quick and effortless. Our prayers are with them.

Once the House and Senate are back in session a comprehensive veto proof law should be passed that includes, yet not limited to:
    1.) No Mask Mandates.
    2.) No Vaccine Mandates.
3.) OVER the COUNTER THERAPEUTICS are made available to The People without a Doctor’s, Insurance Company’s, Central District Health, Mayor’s, or Governor’ consent.
4.) Allow visitation and advocacy to Hospitals, Doctor’s Offices, All areas of health care in order that the Patient has much needed support, help with making decisions and a defensive path to protect themselves from “Governmental Doctor/Administration Think”.
