Idaho House Removes Rep. Giddings from House Commerce and Humans Resources Committee

By • November 15, 2021

Rep. Priscilla Giddings (R-7) has been censured and removed from her spot on the House Commerce and Human Resources Committee today by a vote of 49 to 19.

Back in April, the House Ethics Committee made the recommendations against Giddings because of a news article she shared which contained the name and photo of an alleged rape victim. However, the issue of whether the House would agree with their recommendations did not come up until today during the Special Legislative Session.

Gidding would have lost her seat on the House Commerce and Human Resouces Committee.

When debate on the Gidding’s punishment opened up, Rep. Heather Scott (R-1) tried to ask several committee members if they would yield to questions. Rep. Sage Dixon (R-1) said he would not yield to a question. Rep. John Gannon (D-17) was not present when Scott attempted to ask him a question. Scott then asked Speaker Scott Bedke (R-27) if he would yield to a question, and he said he would not.

As Scott attempted to talk about how the committee was financed, she was interrupted several times that her questions and comments were out of order.

Rep. Ron Nate (R-34) also asked for a point of order and asked if it was appropriate for Bedke to be controlling debate since he is one of the signers on the complaint against Giddings. The crowd in the gallery began clapping, and Bedke asked the crowd to follow the gallery’s rules, which do not allow audible noises.

Bedke then told Nate that he was the Speaker, and until he was no longer Speaker, he would be there.

As Scott tried to discuss details about Giddings’ life, she was interrupted by Rep. Greg Chaney (R-10), who said that Scott’s debate was not germane to the issue at hand. Bedke noted Chaney’s point of order and told Scott to tighten up her debate.

Before Scott continued, however, Nate asked for a point of order again. He asked Bedke if it was appropriate for him to be controlling debate since he is a political opponent of Giddings. Bedke told Nate that he was the Speaker and that it was just a fact of life right now.

Scott closed her debate by discussing the medals and awards that Giddings has had during her military career.

After Scott was done, Nate stood up to debate. He started his debate by telling the legislative body that the House Ethics process is broken.

Nate, in his debate, also discussed the sharing of the original news article, which contained the name of an alleged rape victim and that alleged victim’s name. In their debate, both Nate and Scott asked whether sharing a news link was a reason to punish a Representative.

Rep. Gary Marshall (R-30) stood to debate in favor of the report. Rep. James Ruchti (D-29) also favored the report and said that Giddings should be punished for doxing an alleged rape victim. However, Ruchti was interrupted by Scott, and Scott said that Giddings didn’t dox anyone.

After most of the Representatives who wanted to debate had spoken, Giddings herself stood up and debated against the motion. Giddings attacked the report and said she was not given due process.

Giddings told the body that removing her from one of her committees wouldn’t hurt her but the 45,000 people she represents.

Ultimately the House voted in favor of censuring Giddings and removing her from her spot on the House Commerce and Human Resources Committee. You can see a screenshot of the vote below.

  1. Kangaroo Court SCOTT BEDKE, arguably among Idaho’s most distrusted politicians, and his minions score yet another death blow to the Constitutional Freedoms of the Citizens of Idaho.

Scott Bedke/Nancy Pelosi are indeed one in the same.

  2. I think it was appropriate that the house removed Giddings from one committee, they could have removed her from others as well. She simply could have accomplished what she needed to by following ethical standards in the correct way. Legislators need held accountable when they make poor choices

  3. Excuse me Living Ministry! Were you there and saw the Kangaroo Court that went on? We saw a godly, righteous woman standing up to lying Rinos who pretend to be conservative Republicans. It made us SICK! Even our own legislator Bruce who we supported and who knew better, threw in with the Swamp, the Establishment for his own political career. The “Dirty” Speaker is trying to tarnish Rep.Giddings’ reputation, because he wants to be Lt.Gov. but the public that was there wasn’t buying it, and was supporting Giddings loudly. Besides main chamber, all side chambers were full and watching on video. This cancel culture is going to destroy all of them. They will reap what they have sown. They have sown to the wind and they will reap the whirlwind.

  4. Everybody should check how their District’s representatives voted.

Our District has two Representatives that are now considered Turncoats.

  5. These two statements bother me greatly:

Bedke then told Nate that he was the Speaker, and until he was no longer Speaker, he would be there.

Bedke told Nate that he was the Speaker and that it was just a fact of life right now.

Scott Bedke KNOWS he has the power to do whatever the hell he wants. It is clear that he is making sure he secures his political career continues without interference from his opponents.

And as for Bruce Skaug, you will NEVER receive a vote from this household ever again! We are always conservative voters, but I will make absolutely sure my whole family will vote someone else into your seat and you right out on your ass come next election. You have disgraced your district by aligning yourself with the swamprats in that courtroom, and when you’re sitting there come election day, wondering what the hell happened, you can rest assured we will be thinking about you, as we laugh our asses off and cheer a new term without you!

  6. Kauffman and Lickely continually not surprising me. What a waste of space. I have yet, to see those two represent our voices for our district. Always on the wrong side of things.

We have a lot of house cleaning to do folks, across the board, in our state. Get them out!

  7. The dirty little secret, which is not really a secret at all anymore, is that the rape charges were entirely fake. The story told even by the victim herself described a slutty girl regretting having sex on a first date, not rape or anything close to it. This is all one giant virtue signal by people who are corrupt to the core

  8. The deep state lives in Idaho. They will try to destroy anyone who differs from their agenda.
Did Tamarack Ministry recognize that Priscilla led the fight on the issue of keeping men from competing as women?
    Our next Lt. governor!

  9. What a deep crock of “you know what”. All I can say is…
GIDDINGS FOR LT GOV 2022. The lady has my vote.

    The RINOs have to go.

    Let’s Go Brandon. #FJB.

  10. To the 49 who voted to censure, beware of the precedent you’ve set for yourselves. We the citizens of Idaho expect full discernment and equal justice for all our elected officials. The spotlight will be on each and every one of you. Your actions going forward will be judged accordingly. We will expect swift and immediate accountability when one of you falters. We shouldn’t have to wait very long, as some of you are of dubious character.

To the 19 representatives who voted against censure, thank you. You’ve taken a stand to defend our freedom of speech. You’ve opposed the cancel culture that has now infected our legislature. You’ve come to the defense of one of our prized legislators. Her character, integrity, and exemplary track record speaks for itself.

Priscilla Giddings for Lt. Governor. You have our complete support in Boundary county. God bless you!

  11. Bedke is Little’s lap dog and silences his opponents, abusing his position as speaker of the house. By george we have our own Pelosi in the Idaho house. Make no mistake. The voting polls will show Bedke who he works for, and it’s NOT Brad Little.
