Idaho Dispatch Launches “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” 2021 Legislative Survey

By • May 23, 2021

The Idaho Dispatch is excited to announce our first-ever post-legislative survey called, “The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly.”

Now that the 2021 legislative session is basically over, Idaho Dispatch wanted to find out from legislators how they felt the session went. We want to know what lawmakers liked, didn’t like, and hated about legislation that became law.

Our hope is that legislators will take a few moments to give you their thoughts on just three questions.

All legislators in the House and Senate were sent the exact same email and questions on May 23.

In the spirit of transparency, Idaho Dispatch has provided the entire email we sent to the legislature down below. You will also see that the questions that we would like for them to answer are contained in the email as well.

Once responses are returned to Idaho Dispatch, we will have a unique “thumbnail” made up with the legislator’s picture on it. Their responses will be posted in the order they are received.

If for some reason your legislator says they did not get the email, please let Idaho Dispatch know and we will send it to them again. You can contact us at info@idahodispatch.com.

Feel free to reach out to your legislators as well and encourage them to respond to the survey.

Idaho Dispatch will not pick and choose which legislator’s surveys get posted. Any and all surveys that are returned will be posted.

The only requirement will be that the legislator’s responses must be in the format provided. We will not be accepting one of their “Newsletter” updates as answers for this survey.

Here is the email and questions Idaho Dispatch sent to all 105 legislators:

Dear Legislators,

The Idaho Dispatch is reaching out to all legislators to ask a few questions now that the 2021 Idaho legislative session is mostly over. The article series is called “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.”

We felt it would be good for our readers and voters in Idaho to hear how legislators felt the legislative session went. Our focus is on bills/resolutions that became law that you feel are crucial to speak out on and inform Idahoans what is important about specific pieces of legislation.

Idaho Dispatch does NOT intend to edit your answers other than simple grammatical or spelling mistakes they might contain unless you wish for us to leave your mistakes untouched. If you wish to have the mistakes left in, let us know when you respond.

The length of the answers is entirely up to you. However, shorter and concise answers are likely to be read by more Idahoans than long and drawn-out answers.

We will be using your legislative “headshot” as the article thumbnail unless you provide a different picture with your answers that you would like us to use.

Each legislator will have their own “article,” and they will be published in the order they are received.

Here are the three questions we are asking you to provide answers to for Idahoans:

  1. Name several pieces of legislation (that became law) you felt were GOOD for the citizens of Idaho and why you supported them whether they became law or not.

  2. Name several pieces of legislation (that became law) you felt were BAD for Idaho citizens and why you opposed them whether they became law or not.

  3. Name several pieces of legislation (that became law) you felt were UGLY for Idaho citizens and why you opposed them whether they became law or not.

Thank you for your time and please do not hesitate to ask us any questions you have regarding the survey.

Sincerely,

Greg Pruett
