Hospital in Boise Offers ‘Gender Reassignment’ Surgery

By • September 7, 2022

St. Luke’s hospital in Boise is one of a handful of places in the country that offers intervention for sex reassignment in minors, as first reported by the Washington Stand.

The St. Luke’s Children’s Essence Clinic lists five providers on its webpage including pediatric endocrinologists, a pediatric urologist, and a pediatric plastic surgeon. The stated purpose of the clinic is to,

“care for individuals whose gender identity is different from their sex at birth and who do not identify with the traditional definitions of male or female. In working with gender-diverse patients, we utilize the standards of care developed by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). We offer hormonal therapy, including puberty blockers, and gender-affirming therapy and emotional health assessments.”

The debate over “gender reassignment” is being discussed across the country right now in state legislatures. In Idaho, the debate took center stage several years ago.

In 2020, Senator Christy Zito (at that time, Representative Christy Zito) sponsored House Bill 465 in Idaho. The bill’s statement of purpose explained,

“This legislation would prohibit anyone from performing surgeries to remove otherwise healthy tissue or engage in practices to change or affirm the child’s perception of the child’s sex identity to anyone under 18.”

This legislation was introduced and printed but was never granted a public hearing for debate and discussion. HB 465 was killed in the House Judiciary, Rules, and Administration Committee.

Because the bill was killed, Idaho Code does not speak directly to the issues of hormone treatments and puberty blockers. Other state legislatures have debated, and in some cases passed, legislation regarding minor children for “gender-affirming therapy” and other sex-reassignment treatment.

Arkansas passed the “SAFE Act” or Save Adolescents from Experimentation Act in 2021. It states in part,

“It is of grave concern to the General Assembly that the medical community is allowing individuals who experience distress at identifying with their biological sex to be subjects of irreversible and drastic nongenital gender reassignment surgery and irreversible, permanently sterilizing genital gender reassignment surgery, despite the lack of studies showing that the benefits of such extreme interventions outweigh the risks…”

In a 2021 response to the law passed in Arkansas, the CEO of the American Medical Association wrote,

“For gender diverse individuals, standards of care and accepted medically necessary services that affirm gender or treat gender dysphoria may include mental health counseling, non-medical social transition, gender-affirming hormone therapy, and/or gender-affirming surgeries. Clinical guidelines established by professional medical organizations for the care of minors promote these supportive interventions based on the current evidence and that enable young people to explore and live the gender that they choose.”

The state of California has several years of discussion, debate, and policy-making on this issue.

In 2018 AB2119 was passed with a stated purpose to,

“provide that the rights of minors and nonminors in foster care, as described above, include the right to be involved in the development of case plan elements related to placement and gender affirming health care, with consideration of their gender identity.”

In 2020 AB2218 was passed. The legislation details in part:

(a) The Transgender Wellness and Equity Fund is established in the State Treasury.

(b) The State Department of Public Health’s Office of Health Equity shall administer the Transgender Wellness and Equity Fund for purposes of funding grants to create programs, or funding existing programs, focused on coordinating trans-inclusive health care for individuals who identify as transgender, gender nonconforming, or intersex (TGI).

In 2021 the California Department of Insurance directed all insurance companies in the state to pay for mastectomies for gender transitioning patients under the age of 18.

In the 2020 session in South Carolina, the Legislature passed H.4716, the Youth Gender Reassignment Prevention Act. It is now Section 44-139-10 in South Carolina Law. In response, Dr. Alexis Chavez, Medical Director for The Trevor Project said,

“Legislation that seeks to place a blanket ban on health care interventions for transgender youth ignores health care professionals, it ignores transgender youth, and it ignores the basic dignity of treating every patient. Legislation that refuses to allow best practices would be a major step back for health care overall and would set a dangerous precedent. Furthermore, it would force a doctor to choose between following the law and following the guidelines set by their professional organization.”

St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise was contacted for comment on the following questions:

-When was the Essence clinic established?
-Does the clinic perform sex reassignment surgery on minors?
-On average, how often does the Essence clinic perform these surgeries?

St. Luke’s has not responded as of the time of this writing.

In response to the information on the website of the St. Luke’s Essence clinic, Zito said.

“How unfortunate that an organization founded on Christian Biblical principles would set up an entire department determined to destroy God’s greatest creation. It is heartbreaking that one of the largest healthcare providers in our state is working to destroy future generations.”

Zito also mentioned Genesis 1:27, which says, “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

Zito told Idaho Dispatch that she is not aware of any pending legislation on this topic for the 2023 Legislative Session in Idaho.

  1. Yet another Marxist Brothers disaster.

AKA: “Little/Bedke/Winder” continue with their quest to turn Idaho Blue.

    Vote these clowns out!

PS: As far as the hospital, take away their non-profit status, defund them, and decertify them.

    1. We are great at sacrificing our children to Lucifer . [Our government schools and the unionized teachers for example] Sadly the evil will not be voted out . We are not holding the medical industry for the CV19 malpractice deaths. There is little hope for the Tv watching Zombies will acquire the discernment to differential good from evil and the truth from a lie… Example pay attention to who we have in political office and government employed.

  2. Christy Zito is right. My heart goes out to those children who look to “science” to fill “the holes in their hearts” and to physicians who believe that their “science” is a solution to a complicated psychological problem. This “experiment” has already been tried in Great Briton and Scandanavia and has been discontinued except in about 1% of cases. All men and women are created in God’s image and to think as parents or as a profession we can do better is an act of hubris. Applying a pharmaceutical or surgical solution to symptoms and not addressing the underlying antecedent causes including social isolation and underlying psychopathologies is foley. The attempted suicide rates in the transgender adolescent community are between 50-80% and actually goes up with many interventions which is why they were discontinued in many European countries. It is always good to remember that medical doctors were at the forefront in designing the “final solution” and the Tuskegee experiments. The medical profession does not have a good track record when it comes to addressing moral issues. Recognizing one’s limitations is part of what makes a person a good scientist or clinician.

    1. We have a politician and medical industry crime gang that has again and again plated the people for the fools we are. We certainly as a society are lacking the ability to discern good from evil and a truth from a lie.

  3. Arrest every single person that contributes to this Satanic act being carried out on a minor. From the parent(s), to any counselor, the surgeon(s), and nurses that assisted in an abomination such as this. May God have mercy on your souls, but by my estimation you deserve to go through the same hell you just sentenced that minor to.

    1. ” May God have mercy on your souls”
May God have mercy on our souls because we are doing zero, zip, nada at
least the Muslims stand up for their beliefs.

    1. The medical industry lobbie$ our politician crime gang. An even greater danger is our government schools and the unionized teachers as they are doing this to the minds of the children.

  4. 1. What these health “experts” and dysfunctional parents are doing to children in this regard is an abominable crime…. right “up there” with killing unborn babies. Those who inflict this on children are in my opinion worse than Joseph Mengele…Nazi Dr Death at Auschwitz.
    2. Gender dysphoria is a mental illness according to DSM-5 though most “experts” won’t label it as such…afraid of the “woke” mob.
    3. Males have one X chromosome inherited from their mother, and one Y chromosome inherited from their father. Females have two X chromosomes: one inherited from their mother, and one from their father. Forty-six chromosomes…23 pairs…one pair each from the father and mother. Only one pair of the 23 has anything to do with gender. Are there abnormalities…certainly. Dwarfism, Down Syndrome are a couple examples…there are several others; but there are no chromosome abnormalities which cause gender dysphoria.
    4. Cutting off body parts and taking hormones like some bizarre experimental medical procedure in Shelly’s Frankenstein lab…doesn’t really change anything other than appearance…and does so badly. Doesn’t make gender confused woman a man…or a gender confused man a woman.
    5. A transwoman cannot have a baby…and a transman cannot impregnate a woman.
    6. Transplanting a woman’s ovaries and uterus into a man hasn’t been done; same with a man’s penis, testicles, etc., onto a woman. It won’t ever work…why? A man’s brain is unable to communicate/control a woman’s organs and likewise a woman’s brain is unable to communicate/control a man’s organs.
    7. It’s the science…high school biology, actually.
    8. The gender dysphoric need mental health assistance; not body altering surgery and hormones.
    9. All the woke-talk about transphobia, trans-inclusive language, non-binary people, etc., is just made-up, leftist BS for political purposes.

    1. Yep.

      Gender dysphoria = mental illness.

      Autogynophelia = mental illness.

Watching lefties pretend there is nothing wrong with the behavior of these people is surreal.

  5. Mutilating children for profit is big business now.

St. Lukes is in it just like all the rest who can get away with it.

Same as with the covid hoax.

  6. May want to ask St. Lukes CEO, (who makes $18.2 million/year), why his hospital in mutilating these Children.

Probably an excellent question to ask The Marxist Brothers also, AKA: Little/Bedke/Winder. As in, why are these political clowns allowing this to happen.

  7. Gender reassignment for individuals under 18 should not be allowed. Brains don’t mature in people’s teens. That occurs in their 20’s. So to make the decision to have a permanently life-changing decision before 18 is expecting them to know which sex they want to be for the rest of their lives isn’t logical. At least give them the time to grow up before they decide.

I have 2 questions. 1.What percentage of transgender people later express regret for having those surgeries? 2. How many commit suicide? I would appreciate a factual response.

I am currently a patient of St Luke’s Health Systems. At least for now.
