Councilmember Running for Mayor Asks About Israeli Missiles for Kootenai County

By • June 18, 2025

Coeur d’Alene City Councilmember Dan Gookin posted a comment on social media, asking if Israel has extra missiles that can target specific locations in Kootenai County.

What’s Happening: Gookin, who has served on the city council since the November 2011 election, commented on X. The comment came in response to another X user who had shared a video of the Iranian State TV building on fire after an Israeli airstrike.

The X user, Jeff56_CDA, reshared the video, and Gookin made the following comment (image below):

“I wonder if Israel has an extra missiles they can target to specific locations in Kootenai County?”

There is no specific mention of who or what Gookin was referencing for whom Israel would strike in Kootenai County.

Gookin, who is running for mayor of Coeur d’Alene this year, did not respond to Idaho Dispatch’s request for comment. If he responds, we will update the article.

Digging Deeper: Gookin did comment on X after the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee condemned his comments. Gookin told his followers on X:

“Once again the KCRCC and BrentRegan rush to support antisemitism in Kootani County.”

Here is the statement from the KCRCC that Gookin was referencing:

“KCRCC Rejects Political Violence and Mayoral Candidate’s Violent Rhetoric

The Kootenai County Republican Central Committee rejects all political violence and threats against our community. Recent bomb threats targeting State Representative Jordan Redman and death threats against the KCRCC are unacceptable.

We also condemn Coeur d’Alene mayoral candidate Dan Gookin’s June 16 tweet suggesting Israel target ‘specific location in Kootenai County’ with missiles. Such reckless rhetoric trivializes global conflicts and threatens our own community by normalizing violence as a solution to local political disagreements and creating a climate of fear among residents.

We call on all leaders to reject violence and devising language. The KCRCC remains committed to advancing conservative principles through respectful dialogue and ensuring a safe, and united Kootanai County.”

  1. Gookin seems to thrive on crossing as many lines in a civilized society as he can get away with. Kootenai voters need to stop letting him get away with horrible behavior!

  2. One can only assume that this individual made an (wildly unsuccessful) attempt to twist his words to appear as if it was some sort of tongue-in-cheek “speculation” in order to avoid criticism. I have but one word for his statement/behavior:

    F…A…I…L…!!!

  3. I live in Kootenai County.
There’s too much to say to prove Deranged Dan’s character. This is just the latest in a long slew of sophomoric, man-child actions of his.
Heck, the guy can’t even write good English.
“I wonder if Israel has AN extra missileS…”?
    Dork.
““Once again the KCRCC and BrentRegan rush to support antisemitism in Kootani County.”
Leaving aside that Brent Reagan is two words, not one, maybe Danny could tell us just WTH condemning violence has to do with being anti-semitic?
Unless he thinks Israel is violent?
But then that thinking would be anti-semitic, no? Or maybe he thinks violence is a good thing?
The reality is, he doesn’t think at all. Just a bag of wild emotions.

  4. Meanwhile, some crazed, deranged, hate filled, lunatic has just murdered two of our firefighters and severely wounded another by intentionally starting a fire and lying in wait to assassinate in cold blood. Gookin’s hate filled call to violence must be prosecuted. Enough is enough!
