Congressmen Simpson and Fulcher Split on Jan. 6 Commission Vote

By • May 21, 2021

The U.S. House took a vote earlier this week on a bill (H.R. 3233) to determine if Congress would set up a commission to investigate what happened at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th.

The commission would be made up of five Democrats and five Republicans. According to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the commission would investigate and report facts from that day’s attack on the Capitol.

All Democrats and 35 Republicans voted to establish the Jan. 6 commission, including Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson.

Congressman Russ Fulcher voted against the the measure.

Idaho Dispatch reached out to both Simpson and Fulcher for a statement on their votes, but neither office has returned our request for comment at this time.

H.R. 3233 will now head to the U.S. Senate. 10 Republicans will have to join all Democrats in order to get it passed.

The Idaho Democrat Party tweeted the following comment about the vote and criticized Fulcher in the post:

This is a vote in support of the mob who stormed the Capitol on January 6th. Russ Fulcher sided with the insurrectionists. Despicable.

The Idaho Republican Party has made no statement or social media post at this time regarding the vote.

Do you believe the U.S. Senate should vote in favor of H.R. 3233? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. Thankfully I am in Congressman Fulcher’s district. Simpson seems to have caught the Cheney virus and will no doubt be primaries. As far as the so called “insurrection” goes it was not a very good one. I am convinced we could do better…

    1. What do you think about Fulcher’s scandalous divorce he hid from everyone? Does that make you thankful to be in his district?

  2. Russ Fulcher understands and represents Idaho and Idaho Values.

Simpson: Simply resign buddy, you are definitely non essential, you no longer represent Idaho, you have lost The people’s faith.

The Idaho Republican Party should censor you.
Idaho needs to put up an actual conservative, that represents Idaho Values to win the upcoming Primary in order to replace Simpson now.

  3. It is critical that the Republicans on the Commission not allow the Democrats to lead the direction of the investigation! It is apparent to me that that is the intention.

Don’t send me a damn email!

  4. I agree that the Idaho Republican Party should censor Simpson. He is not for the people of Idaho. Isn’t there anyone that run against him in the primary and win?

  5. I think Mike Simpson has a quid pro quo deal going on with Dems. I think he decided to support H.R. 3233 in return for support from Dems to remove Idaho’s hydroelectric dams. He knows Idahoans do not want to remove the dams and is doing everything in his power to circumvent the will of Idahoans on that very issue. He does not and has never represented Idahoans or our values. He only represents his donors, special interests, and himself.

  6. The U.S. Senate should vote in favor of H.R. 3233 to get to the truth once and for all. Voting no makes it look like there is something to hide.

  7. I am happy to be in Senator Fulcher’s district. He really cares about Idaho. I’m glad that Simpson is standing up for our 2nd amendment rights, but he needs to stand up for all of our rights.

    1. Karen… What about his acts of adultery and scandalous divorce that got him where he is? Happy about that?

      1. You are a petty, malicious, defaming, dirt-digging, trash-talking little person. The divorce issue was amicably resolved between him and his ex-wife teo years ago. Painful enough for both without people like you who continue to publicly rub their noses in it. As Christ said, “let he who has no sin cast the first stone.” What does Congressman Fulcher’s divorce have to do with how he and Simpson voted?? Get your head out of the gutter, “buddy!”
