City of Caldwell Says No Public Funds Paid to Rosholt Law

By • May 19, 2025

The city of Caldwell released a statement saying that no public funds have been spent on legal services to Rosholt Law or any other law firm.

What’s Happening: As citizens ask questions about letters sent out from Rosholt Law on behalf of either the four city council members or Police Chief Rex Ingram, a concern about whether public funds were used was a question Idaho Dispatch received a number of times. In fact, prior to the city’s press release, we had our own public records request to the city about whether public funds were paid to Rosholt Law.

The city released a statement today regarding the subject. Here is the press release in its entirety:

“In light of recent community concerns and media coverage surrounding the legal representation of certain Caldwell officials, the City of Caldwell wishes to provide a clear and factual statement regarding the use of city resources.

Specifically, questions have been raised about whether public funds were used to retain the services of Rosholt Law in matters involving communications with KTVB and other legal correspondence on behalf of individual city officials.

The City of Caldwell has not paid any money to Rosholt Law, or any other law firm, outside organization or third-party to represent or provide services to Caldwell City elected officials or employees for personal matters. As far as the City is concerned, Rosholt Law represents those city officials only in their personal capacity. As such, the City is not responsible for any fees associated with that representation. Nor has there been any request by any of those officials for the City of Caldwell to pay for the private legal counsel and services.

Any suggestion to the contrary is wholly speculative, incorrect, and misleading.
The City of Caldwell is committed to transparency, fiscal responsibility, and maintaining public trust. We understand and respect the public’s right to ask questions and seek accountability from their government.”

Digging Deeper: Idaho Dispatch will continue to ask citizens questions about Caldwell’s government. Sunshine is always the best policy for the government.

The entire point of the media should be to ask questions of government officials, and Idaho Dispatch will continue to do that.
