City of Bonners Ferry Adopts Resolution so it Can Fly Canadian Flag Every Day

By • May 7, 2025

The city of Bonners Ferry, located in northern Idaho, adopted a resolution last night that will presumably allow it to fly the Canadian flag every day as a “special occasion.”

What’s Happening: While the state watched as the city of Boise adopted the LGBT flag as an “official” city flag, Bonners Ferry was working on its own resolution to fly the Canadian national flag. House Bill 96 allows flags of other nations to be flown on “special occasions.”

The city of Bonners Ferry, which reportedly flew the Canadian flag every day before the new law, adopted a resolution stating that 365 days a year is a “special occasion” to fly the Canadian flag.

Digging Deeper: Given what Boise and Bonners Ferry have done, you can expect other cities in Idaho to follow suit. Parma took down its “Thin Blue Line” flag to comply with state law. Will they adopt their own resolution? Will other cities like Pocatello, Ketchum, and more adopt similar resolutions to subvert the new law?

The more cities that adopt these types of resolutions, the less likely it will be that the legislature will push back in 2026.

  1. As long as the Canadian flag is flown below the US, I have no problem.
Bonners Ferry is the first city that Canadians hit on their south down Hwy 95 to come spend their money at places like Silverwood Theme Park. I makes them feel more welcome and maybe willing to spend more money.
