Boise Mayor Refuses to Remove Pride Flag Despite State Law
By Greg Pruett • April 10, 2025Boise Mayor Lauren McLean is refusing to take down an LGBT flag from flying on government property, despite a new Idaho law prohibiting the flag from flying.
What’s Happening: Gov. Brad Little signed House Bill 96 into law, which went into effect immediately upon his signature. The law only allows certain types of flags to be flown by government entities. The LGBT flag is not on the approved list.
Under HB 96, the following flags are approved: the U.S., any state flag, military branch flags, POW/MIA flags, tribal flags, and an official city flag.
Digging Deeper: While HB 96 may prohibit the LGBT flag from flying on government property, the bill did not contain any punishment for violating the law. No enforcement mechanism is available, so McLean is unlikely to take the flag down.
City officials told KIVI Channel 6 news that they will continue to fly the flag.

Doesn’t represent me, if I can force a flag up that represents me too, then it can stay up. But people would cry and complain and start fires if a flag representing freedom and love were to fly. Instead we are all forced to be represented by a resentful and hateful group that scream until they are blue how terrible they think everyone else is…

Oh you mean while the rule of law is actually being demolished as we speak by the one you put there? Here’s the deal. If your pet dictators can decide to play fast and loose with the constitution at their convenience and deny accountability for state murder every step of the way, perhaps you can deal with a colored piece of fabric illegally waving in the breeze.
How are they playing “fast and loose with the constitution”? What are talking about denying accountability for state murder every step of the way? How is the rule of law being demolished? If you’re going to make those claims, would you also agree that stomping on the rule of law was commited by the Biden administration when they willfully allowed our border to mean nothing and allow millions upon millions of illegal entries into our country? That is literally ignoring and spitting on laws that are there to protect citizens, law, and order within our country.

It’s an age old principle of jurisprudence: Never Make A Law You Can’t Or Won’t Enforce.
If you do, it will be ignored, and law itself will be held in contempt by the populace.

I am a resident of BOISE. Mary McLean represents me. She represents all the people of BOISE.
The law enacted by a conservative, MAGA led legislature and governor. The law was to appease the base Republicans and their agenda that is nationwide. The pride flag and the transgender flag are not a religious symbol. They do not promote hate, instead they promote love, diversity, inclusion, and non-discrimination, values that I like to see in my city government. Mayor McLean has my support and I also support the city council of BOISE who also Support diversity equity, and inclusion in a city that is as diverse as BOISE.
I too am a resident. I have trouble believing you are actually a resident here as the person you supposedly support you don’t even seem to know the actual name of. Her name is Lauren, and she is a terrible mayor. She’s allowed total mismanagement of the city. She put into place a police chief that came from out of state and has a shady history. The city of Boise in fact recently employed an out of state officer that was hired then fired from Meridian police department after abusing his power as an officer. Complaints were made to her about this and she ignored them. She also has allowed the city to fall into a no-man’s land of construction instead of leading her subsidiaries to manage what, where, and when certain construction is done to better keep downtown approachable instead of the hellhole it currently is. She’s also promoted and put forth “low income housing” that isn’t actually for low income people. They will end up being multi- thousand dollar a month apartments for wealthier individuals (there is a history of her doing this).
All i hear from the “pride flag” army is nothing but hate, separation, and discrimination. What are you talking about, stop drinking the coolaid.

I agree, someone needs to take the flag down. Its not part of government and someone better get their a%% in gear and take it down NOW! Or are we going to keep enforcing lawlessness in this country. We have had enough of OBummer and Biden discarding our laws. They got away with discarding the Supreme Courts. Laws meant nothing to them, they made up their own laws. We came so close to losing our country to the Communist. Thank God we didn’t.
Funny how all the politicians tell you how hard they are working and then produce this type of BS.
