AG Labrador Applauds Supreme Court’s Unanimous Opinion in Smith & Wesson Case Against Mexico
By Greg Pruett • June 5, 2025Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador celebrated a major victory at the U.S. Supreme Court for gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson in a case over Mexico today.
What’s Happening: Mexico tried unsuccessfully to sue Smith and Wesson and several other brands, including Glock, Beretta, and other manufacturers, claiming they did not do enough to curb firearms getting into the hands of drug cartels. In fact, Mexico tried to argue that it aided and abetted the trafficking of weapons to the cartels.
Labrador praised the rare unanimous opinion from SCOTUS, saying on X,
“We joined a brief defending American gun manufacturers against Mexico’s lawsuit and today SCOTUS delivered a correct unanimous victory.
Our rights will not be under attack by a country whose refusal to crack down on cartels and the border has caused so much damage on U.S. soil.”
Digging Deeper: The targeting of U.S. firearm manufacturers has been a more recent trend from gun control advocates. Several states are also targeting firearm manufacturers.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said they will respond further in the coming days, as a lawsuit in Arizona is still pending.
